I am taking Ellis advice and posting an intro. I like all the forums, but this one is probably the one I "hang out" in the most!
So here goes. My name is Sassy,I'm 31, married, I have PCOS and Type II Diabetes, I am on medication (Fortamet & Avandia) and diet and exercise for my Diabetes. Although I will admit I am struggling a lot with it because my husband is NOT a diabetic and has a sweet tooth. I know that isn't a very good excuse. But I'm being honest.
Also we work 3rd shift so it makes it difficult at times to eat healthy and exercise. We are currently looking into joining a 24 hr. fitness club that is across the st. from our work. We recently purchased a Food Saver (system that vaccuum seals your food) so we can portion out our food and keep it fresher longer. (sound like a commerical now don't I?) lol.
I have struggled all my life with my weight and this is the heaviest I have been. I am probably around 300 lbs or maybe even 310 by now. I wasn't weighed last time at the drs since I was VERY sick then. I will ask to be weighed at my next appt. (working with my dr to lose weight)
My weakest point is with our shift and all we don't cook a whole lot. So I'm looking for quick, easy, healthy meals that don't taste like cardboard to eat and take to work to eat. Also healthy snacks for work. I'm not much of a veggie or fruit eater either. My hubby loves fruit however. I am a fast food junkie.
I have found a new love. Fish. So I'm looking for healthy fish recipes. I had Salmon lastnight and it was great! I wanna try more fish cuz I know it's good for you (IF cooked right) and very lean!
What else? Ummmm. Also I was in a car accident like 10 yrs or so ago which caused a spinal injury and my back goes out once in a while from that and I also have arthritis from it. My dr. recommended me starting out walking back and forth in a pool so it's easier on my joints.
PM me if you'd like my email addy! Just please let me know your from here.
I think that is about it. Feel free to ask me any questions you want. I'm completely open.
I just recently changed my User ID from Fatt_Lady to Sassy_Chick and "came out of hiding". I feel much better about myself!
Thanks so much!

... I created this ID so I can be completely honest but keep my privacy as well. That may sound dumb, but this is the only way I feel I can be 100% honest about my eating and weight without being embarrassed ... So I hope that is okay and hope nobody takes offense. If so I guess I can leave.
Hi there!
Leave? Don't leave, you just got here! I certainly understand the need for privacy and am right there with ya! I say things here I wouldn't want my friends or family to know... but in here, it's "safe"
You are 100% welcome here, no need to kittyfoot around! Pull up a chair and enjoy! Glad to meet you and I wish you mucho success!
I want to say Thanks to everybody! I plan on staying, as long as possible! I finally found a place where I feel welcome and wanted!
I was a part of a Friendship Group for a few years and one person totally ruined it and it ended up closing. Since then I've been struggling trying to find a "place" to "fit in". I think I have finally found that place now, here.
Hi! I just wanted to tell you that my favorite salmon recipe is very simple.
Put garlic powder, soy sauce, salt, pepper and dill on both sides of salmon fillet. Broil until done to your likeness. If you like these flavors, it's absolutely scrumptious.
Since you now have the foodsaver gadget, take just one day and cook up meals and portion them out for the week...or month. That way you have precooked lunches to take to work.
As far as healthy snacks, you have a ton to choose from. Being a diabetic however makes it a bit harder. My dad's a Type II, but I don't plan his meals so not up on all he can/can't have. I just know he avoids sugar and starch...well...he's supposed to. But what he's supposed to do and what he does when mom isn't looking are two different things. Anyway, here's some, but you may have to tailor it around diabetes:
string cheese
nuts
apple (fruit of any kind but apples are more filling - I know bananas are HIGH in sugar though)
veggies (cucumber slices with vinegar, tomato/cucumber salad, mangos or carrots dipped in ranch for a crunchy treat...anything)
yogurt
peanut butter (you could also spread that on celery)
My brain has stopped functioning. There's more but it's just not coming to me. One thing I've started doing that's delicious is to take a low carb whole wheat wrap and spread a thin layer of the light garden vegetable cream cheese on it, lay on a piece of ham, cucumber slices, tomatoes and onions, and roll it up. Delicious.
As for fish, I eat just about any types. My favorites are tilapia, swordfish steaks, trout and salmon. I also grill a lot of skinless boneless chicken breasts that I can have throughout the week. The best way I've found to season fish is to use the original Grill Mate (for steaks - but I like it on fish and NOT on steaks LOL) from Sam's Club. Then I just toss it on the George Foreman.
I'm really curious to hear how your FoodSaver works out. I've been considering getting one. Currently, I have 4 different sizes of zipper bags (snack, sandwich, quart and gallon) and I use them to portion out stuff. Would be nice to have something a bit more compact.
Clingwrap and its alternatives are so hard to handle! And foil doesn't do well in the microwave (personal experience... oops!).
I'm with you on not liking to cook. For "staples" I tend to roast a turkey breast once or twice a week and keep it in the fridge. I also make a big batch of brown rice and portion it into little single serve cups. And I keep a few hard boiled eggs on hand, too, for quick grabbers. Takes a bit more planning than just stopping at McD, but it's less expensive and not too taxing, if done on the weekend .
Hi fattlady,
I am new here too, but really enjoy the support you get from here. I sure wish you lots of good luck and just remember to take it one day at a time.
I have lost 30 something lbs in the last 2 years,,still struggling to get the last 35 off,,but it helps to have support,,it helps my motivation.
Almost heaven,
Loved the recipe about the wraps and cukes and tomatoes,,that sounds delicious!
First off - what Lena said. I do that too, with the boiled eggs and rice. And if plain brown rice is just too icky (it is for me LOL), I spice it up while keeping the sodium next to nothing. I add the low sodium Herbox bullion, parsley and Mrs. Dash. Makes the rice delicious. I also like to make egg salad with the boiled eggs sometimes, but mayo is just grease. And fat free mayo is disgusting. So if you're into experimentation, try products til you find what you can put up with. That's what I did. And that's how I found that Nayonaise (soy) is very close to the mayo taste, but with the fat free mayo calories.
Anyway, was reading some of your other threads and figured I'd just put everything here that caught my attention.
In the yogurt thread, you mentioned the Yoplait Whips. I haven't checked the nutrition info on those, but I tend to stay away from the froo froo yogurts. I stick with light yogurts for the time being just to keep the calories down. Once I reach my goal, I might switch to regular yogurt, but then there's all that sugar. Some people just use plain yogurt and add their own flavor...like fruit, honey, vanilla, etc. Anyway, I used to absolutely hate yogurt. Couldn't stomach it at all. But I kept trying different brands. I'd buy one yogurt of a different brand each time I went to the store and gag it down. Eventually I found a brand that I could stomach. Later, I realized it wasn't the brand. I'd simply eaten so much yogurt in taste tests that it had grown on me. LOL Now I eat yogurt all the time.
About your question on whole grains, watch the ingredients. Just because something says it's whole grain doesn't mean it's being honest. The first ingredient should start with "whole" and not "unbleached enriched".
As for your hubby's unhealthy habits...go on with your life. My hubby is rail thin, so we're on two very different diets - low cal for me and high cal for him. He's been battling hyperthyroid and needs to put some meat back on his bones. But I wish he'd find an alternate way than in drinking a case of Mtn. Dew a week. Ick. But getting him to exercise? ROFL!!!!!!!!! So I find other exercise partners. Find a friend or neighbor and just get out and do your thing. I exercise daily while hubby does his thing. Though I do chauffer my dad around from time-to-time and at least can make him exercise...I park the farthest from the door and make him walk...grumbling the whole time. LOL
Wow THANKS EVERYBODY!
Great ideas, suggestions and recipes and food ideas! You are all making me very hungry! lol.
The Food saver is GREAT! We love it! It is very easy to use and makes life easier. I too can't stand cling wrap and those awful disposable containers that never want to close! If you get the food saver, they usually come with the containers, these are wonderful! Also we got the food marinator, very nice! It's nice and it SEALS the food so no leakage at all, which makes it wonderful for taking to work or picnics!
Yeah I know those Yaplait Whips aren't the best for ya, but as for taste goes they are great! I don't eat those, only once in a while. Ellis sent me a link all about Whole Grains which I read and it basically stated the same. My hubby wants to work out with me. He just enjoys his sweets. So I let him eat them and I either eat something else or nothing. It really doesn't bug me that much. I crave sweets every great once in a while, but even my mother said that as a child if I had candy or anything like that it would last forever because I really never had a sweet tooth. Every once in a while, but nothing like my hubby or my mother.
Thanks Again for all the Welcome and what not!
