Big arms

  • I still need 23 lbs to lose. When should I try to work on my arms? Since I started working out, I have been losing inches everywhere but my upper arms. They have stayed at 10 in. Is this big? Will they get thinned out? Is there something I can do? Or could this just be "Flabby muscles?" This is what my husband told me it could be. I'm only 30 y/o I don't want my arms to be all saggy looking, while the rest of me is thinned out.
  • 10 inches around is pretty tiny if you are measuring at the widest point of your bicep If they are flabby, pick up some weights, and work on your biceps and triceps. Check exrx.net if you need particular exercise ideas. Use the heaviest weights with which you can complete a set of 10-12 reps with good form.

  • By all means, work those arms! Toned arms look terrific in tank tops.
  • I have 12 inch arms
If I measure with flexed biceps at the widest point, mine are 12 inches, which I think is kinda small.

I agree with everyone else: Go for muscles!

  • I was curious, so I just measured my bicep... They are 12.5 inches... I like them too ... I agree nothing looks better than toned arms...
  • I have never seen a lean person who lifts weights that has "batwings". As the others wrote, working your triceps will result in tone, shapely arms, never flabby ones.
  • yep work those triceps and keep at it you will eventually get what you want
  • At last measurement (in July) my biceps were 10.75 inches. They started out at 13.25 inches (when I was 189 lbs), so I like the results . I have a minor "batwing" problem, but my trainer and I are really working to target my triceps.

The funny thing is that I have a HUGE birthmark under my upper arm. It goes from my armpit to my elbow. It never "bothered" me (meaning, I was never self-conscious about it) because it was hidden under my arm -- no one could see it unless I raised my arm up while wearing a short-sleeve shirt. But now because of the work I've been doing on my biceps, my birthmark has MOVED and is now really very obvious on the inner part of my arm. My trainer and I think it's pretty cool because it shows how much your muscle tone can tighten up your skin. I like to look down at it now because it reminds me of all the hard work I've done! And I never used to be ABLE to "look down at it" because it was hanging down under my arm.

That was really random, sorry . I just think it's cool.
  • You got me wonderin' ... mine are just a hair shy of 12 inches. Which is bigger than when I was heavier but a much nicer shape. Not so much flappin'.

Don't apologise! I think that is really interesting. It is quite amazing how the body can change!
