Depression and Weight IssuesHave you been diagnosed with depression, are possibly on depression medication, and find it affects your weight loss efforts? Post here for support!
hi girls, i would like to ask the prozac users what your dose is, and if it has helped you in your battle with overeating. i started on 10 mg/day, and it has helped me, but ive been on it for a month...what might i expect down the road? thank you so much for taking the time, if you are able...i am really curious!
kim
Kim- TAKE IT EVERY SINGLE DAY! I started out on 20 mg and was fine, then I forgot for a few days and had an episode and had to go up to 40 mg. Then I got obsessed about studying for a test and forgot for almost a week, not only did I have one of my worst episodes in years (no showering, no sleeping, just lying in bed feeling like I wanted to die) and my dose has been pushed to 60 mg. The Dr. says that we might have to change completely if I got through another major episode and I like the Prozac, and have fear of weight gain on anything stronger. I also have a low dose prescription for Xanax (2.5-5 mg) when I can't sleep (actually the Dr. wants me taking this everyday because of my ED) , but I can't take the zombie effect. If the 10 mg dose is working, just keep on keeping on and never forget stick it next to your toothbrush.
Chris
PS. I use to eat out of the refridgerator with a spoon and fork, I have not done this at all since I have been on Prozac. Thank GOD!
thanx so much! i heard horror stories of gaining on it...it has helped me stop and analyze my situation, and not leap into the food before i know what i have done....i have been happy with the relief from the constant feelings of anxiety, but the 10 might be a little low, i might try 20mg/day, and see if it is better, or zomie-ish.
have a recovering day,
kim
When I was on it eions ago, I lost.. don't worry about gaining
Wait !!!
Chris, you mean to tell me that not taking a drug can lead to it not working and having to go to a higher dose as a result of it ? I'm starting to wonder if thats what happened to me years ago.
My mom takes it, I'm not sure what dosage she is at but it did and does help her lose weight.
Leenie-As my doctor explains it, its kind of like a titration with your blood chemistry. In fact I have a new prescription I am suppose to take on top of the Xanax and Prozac with the Dr.'s instructions going like take 10 mg for 3 days, if it doesn't work go up to 20 to a max of 30 mg. Then if your still not sleeping or having loud racing thoughts "Call me". Its all about putting the whole blood chemistry right and getting the neurons to fire in the right order. Ever since he gave me the prescription I haven't filled it and I am sleeping fine so I figure its working
If your still having a fuzzy gray life and your dose doesn't seem to be working SCREAM IT at Them. Walking around with life as a gray background instead of full technicolor sucks. I know I have lived most my life that way.
I recently went from 30 mg to 40 mg of Prozac because I started sleeping a lot and not really caring about much of anything it's actually getting worse so Monday I'm calling my doc and asking to go back down to 20 mg.....
My doc prescribed me Wellbutrin last week to help offset the Prozac side effects, I'm on day 2 so no noticable difference as of yet. I think I can safely reduce the Vitamin P while increasing the Wellbutrin slowly (I'm only taking a half of my 150 mg pill since the first day it gave me a migraine).
Just a quick check-in on this very interesting thread.
I've been taking prozac for a long time now. I'm currently on Prozac Weekly, twice a week (Mon and Fri). I also take three sustained-release Wellbutrin a day, which help me with the bulimic portion of my issues.
Let me echo the Take it Every Day sentiments. This past month I got a bit off track with the Prozac--was operating on about half strength (missed three doses). I definitely felt the effect--wanting to just sleep to escape; to stay in bed and be left alone. Hazy. Emotional. It hadn't even registered that I was so far behind in my meds. Then my psychiatrist said "Aren't you ready for a refill?"--and I still had three of the month's 8 pills left!
I've noticed that sometimes I feel the true need to be left alone and escape and I seem to slip off dosage to "justify" my feeling like that. In other words, it's almost as if I think I'm not allowed to have those feelings unless I can justify them by claiming depression. It's weird. I'm working on that....
<sigh> after not needing it for more than 6 years, i'm back on prozac. not a big deal. but the label says for me to take 10 mg a day for a week, and then 20 mg a day.
titration? i guess so. it's only been two days [well, i just took my third dose] and i KNOW it's too soon to feel a real effect, but i DO feel a bit better. and more tired. but my sleep has been disordered for awhile, and i suspect that the serotonin 'repair' is straightening my sleep out.
in the past, prozac worked REAL fast with me. and very very well. with a weight loss. i told my doc that i wouldn't tolerate a weight gain after all i've been through... and he said that folks don't usually gain weight on prozac. of course, we all know that people can and do gain weight...
LLS it never occured to me either that missing dosages, no matter what your on can mess things up. I'm really glad that your meds are working for you and that your doctor seems to know what he is doing. Its so important to have a good Dr... oh the horror stories I could tell you LOLOL !!!!
JIFFY !!! I'm glad your doing good on it. For me it took about a week for it to kick in but they say it should take a few weeks ??? whats w/that, most folks tend to feel something w/in a day or two. You know where I am if you need to talk.
