August Exercise Challenge

    I tried participating in the exercise challenge once before and didn't stick with it, although I did keep walking. Now I'm getting into strength training and want to stay accountable. So I'm setting two goals:

    1. Walk 80 miles. This is not incidental miles walked throughout the day, but purposeful "go for a walk" miles. Hubby and I walk at least 2 miles nearly every day, with some longer walks mixed in, so this shouldn't be hard to reach.

    2. Strength training and stretching. I decided to set this for 500 minutes. We'll see how that goes. I only did 20 minutes today and I don't do it every day, but I assume I will be able to go longer as I get used to it. Honestly I have no idea whether this is an achievable goal or not.

    So I'm 0/80; 0/500

  • I didn't quite meet my July goal due to a minor injury and a heat wave. But, I was doing well enough at the end of the month that I think I can set the same goal for August and feel pretty confident that I'll meet it.

    August goal: 1100 minutes

    1: 25 walk, 10 stretch; 35/1100

    Well, it's back to teaching next week, and back to orchestra rehearsals mid-month.
    And a few days away from home, as well.
    My goal is 750 minutes of intentional exercise.

    Aug5: 30 min outdoor walk AM; 15 min water walk AM
    Aug6: 50 min water walk AM
    Aug17: 30 min water walk
    (took a tumble at work this week and landed hard)
    Aug24: 50 min water walk
    Aug25: 30 min water walk
    Aug31: 45 min water walk
    (back to school took a toll!)

    Total: 250

    So long boring story, but for work reasons, I'm not going to have ANY spare time for the first 11 days this month, even less than usual. Not a great time for me to have decided to get into strength training. Plus I'm going on an overnight trip this weekend. But I'll do what I can, when I can and step it up in the last 2/3 of the month.

  • I haven't been as successful in exercising as I have in eating healthy in this journey. This is once again not going to be my month. I took a tumble and chipped a bone in my wrist and now am wearing a splint for a few weeks. And have had a crazy month overall, so I haven't done anything this month for exercise and won't be able to do any dumbbells this month at all. So I'm going to just get back to walking and doing some squats and things, but just focus on healing and not working to reach any particular exercise goals. Maybe in a few weeks.
  • Lacerta: Ouch! That's a good plan to get in some walking while your wrist heals.
