Im new :)

  • Hello everyone. I'm new. I decided that I'm going to try AGAIN starting tomorrow and felt that joining this site for support would be a good place to start. I'm a 45 yr old soon to be single mom of a 22 year old daughter and I'm starting the process of leaving a 16 year relationship that's probably been over for years.
I currently weigh 246 lbs and I'm 5'3" tall. I've been gaining and losing weight since 19 yrs old. The heaviest I've been was 266 I think...the least I've been able to drop down to was 156. (for like a hot minute) (and that was from a starting point of about 187)
I've been on Atkins, Weight watchers, Quick Weight Loss center, the cabbage soup diet, the 3 day diet, South Beach, The Makers Diet, and on and on and on. All of them would work, it was me who would fail. I seriously don't understand why! Well actually I do. I'm an addict with food. Pure and simple. I'm either very strict and ON a diet, or I'm off and eating like a psycho. I don't exercise. I'm being upfront because I need to. Tomorrow I'm going to start Weight watchers with my old book from when it was the points program (before Points Plus)

I'm glad to be here and I hope that I find inspiration, encouragement, and friends.
  • Welcome aboard! I think you will love all the info and support on this board. I am sure you can do it!
  • Thank you ladies!!!
Can I ask what plan you girls are following?
  • Hi and good luck with your journey.

Even though I'm only 27, I feel like I've been 'dieting' my entire life. Nothing ever worked for me long term before either. The smallest I had been (prior to now) was 190 pounds. What I found really made this time different and worked was not seeing it as a diet or something that I couldn't handle for the rest of my life. I count calories and probably will continue until well into maintenance. I never went down to a number I found really restrictive. I've stuck right around 1600 which has allowed me to eat pretty much anything just in moderation. If I told myself I was on a diet and couldn't have chocolate, ice cream and wine (3 of my must haves) I would have quit long ago. Instead I just make sure whatever I'm eating will fit into my daily goal and if it doesn't, it'll have to wait until tomorrow.

I think for most of us, we just have to find what works for us, whether it be calorie counting, WW, low carb, etc. And make sure that it doesn't seem to restrictive so it's something you can stick to long term.

    Good luck.
