  • Tammy I just wanted to say congrats on all your weightloss success! I've been checking in and reading the new posts every couple of a days but have not really had anything new to share. I feel like I have a good couple of days where I eat well intuitively then I have a few days where I don't. Last nite for example, I made a dinner with chicken salad and veggies and got very full on that. Even tho I knew I was full I kept nibbling on the leftovers. Then I decided I was craving chocolat so went to the store and got all kinds of chocolate candies.

So yeah good days and very bad days lol
  • It sure was!
Quote: Wonderful news, Tammy! Congratulations to you both.

I bet that gumbo was yummy!
Thank you so much! We went to the Leeville Seafood Resturant, it's on the way to Grand Isle and they have the BEST seafood gumbo!!! We each have only a cup of it, but it is sure awesome!

Yep we all have those too!!
  • I am off the prednisone that I had to take for ten days for inflammation in my lungs. (I am coughing much better, LOL) My ankle is feeling better too. So grateful to have only gained 3 pounds through the ordeal. I've taken it before and gained much more. My intuitive eating was not in my daily relationship with food the past ten days. I am going to be working hard on getting back to it.

We've been out of town for 5 days helping and our son and family get ready for their new baby. I cooked everyday for the freezer.

I've started to read the Overfed Head.

Hope you are all doing well.

I have taken it for four years but have been off for 3.

My favorite IE book. I am re-reading it right now and it is getting me back on track, as I sort of fell off the IE wagon for awhile and put some weight back on.
  • I started with Overfed Head and lost 40lb but can't get below 150. Any suggestions?

Carol, if you don't mind me asking...how tall are you?

    What is your goal weight?

I'm 5'2" and the doctor told me that 130 is a good weight for me. I got down to 135 a couple of years ago (on a diet, of course!) but then naturally gained it back.

I'm assuming you're relatively short since you don't seem to be happy with 150.

Are you able to exercise? I was walking A LOT when I lost a significant amount of weight years ago. I do think that helped me take off the last pounds.
  • I am 5'4" and would like to get to 125. I do exercise videos for an hour a day 6 days a week.

First of all, that's a wonderful exercise regimen! You are definitely doing the right thing there!

I'm sure you already know this, but for your height 150 is just slightly overweight, and 125 is right in the middle of the normal range. So I see why you want to get there.

What I've noticed is this - as I've aged, the weight at which I look and feel good has increased. Where before I would have thought 130 was heavy, now it's normal. I weighed about 100-110 in my 30's and 40's but with menopause I started putting on weight. As I look back, that was normal "middle-age" weight and if I'd just left well enough alone I would probably have settled somewhere in the 125-135 range. Right now I'd be happy at 135, even at 5'2" because that's how low I got before and I looked and felt really good.

Ultimately you have to decide what is right for you, but it may be that your body has found its "set point." You could diet to get rid of the rest of it, but I would not recommend that, as we know what that leads to!

I think the fact that you've lost 40 lbs via IE is just amazing, and if it's meant for you to lose an additional amount of weight you will. I'd just continue to do what you are doing; I have a feeling you will eventually lose a few more pounds, but I am not certain you will get to 125. That's relatively low for a 5'4" woman, particularly in middle-age.
  • I weighed 115 as a young adult but could never diet again.
  • I mean I could never diet once I found IE and I have tried.
  • Good Afternoon!
I am at work, so please don't tell the boss I am on the computer, oh wait I am the boss! I got a phone call from my doctor yesterday the are putting me on an evening dose of Metformin, although my blood glucose is not off the charts it is higher than it should be, hopefully as I continue to eat like I should and with the weight coming off I will get off all these meds one day! Been walking 2-3 laps every morning, hubby is up to 4 but my hips burn after 3 laps so I think more weight needs to come off before I try and tackle 4 laps.
    Have a blessed day! Tammy
  • I've read Overfed Head, I Can Make You Thin, and parts of Intuitive Eating... and I agree that diets really don't work long term. - at least for me. I've been at it for 50 years. Now, I have to learn how to feel real hunger and real fullness. I still have the 'can't eat this' mentality. I would guess it takes a while to get all this figured out. I know I haven't eaten enough today... but, am working on it.

One thought from the Overfed Head, of many, has stuck with me as almost profound. Something like: Don't save the best bite for the last bite, because you may be feeling full and satisfied by then and won't eat it after all.

Also... I've been reading the past threads on IE and it's helping me to understand it and live with it. I can't imagine not living with lots of food rules except to only eat when hungry and stop when full. I am hoping that this way of eating can save me from the insanity I've lived with for years. I really want to be in a food comfort zone. I know it will take time.

Hope you are having a GREAT day.

PS. I've put my food scale away.

This is so me! The problem is when we save the best for last, even though full we will eat it because it's the best part! I am really trying NOT to do this, but after years of eating like this it is very hard to undo!! Glad I am not the only one!!! Have a blessed day! Tammy
