Changes in Your Lady Cycle?

  • Has anyone here noticed a change in your cycle in the first few weeks? Trying to figure out if this is something due to IP or something else. Normally when I kick sugar this can happen but just wanting to hear your experience about this.
  • That's the diet. Women store estrogen in our fat cells, and when we release a lot of fat the estrogen rushes our systems and messes with our cycles. Some people find they have spotting for weeks, or more frequent periods. I actually SKIPPED my first cycle after starting IP and then had two in one month the next month. It gets better as your body adjusts and your weight loss stabilizes a bit.
  • Mine was really funky my first time on IP. I would spot for weeks and then get a 10 day TOM. Things were completely irregular and awful. I was also on BC and that could have been part of the issue. I have since found out that my body rejects the hormones and can't be on it any longer (all sorts of fun complications). This time around on IP things have been pretty good and regular. Hoping it stays this way!
  • I haven't been regular since losing my baby to an ectopic in 2009. My cycle is usually 51 days because of a tubal ligation, tracking with a phone app. It was due on the 11th, but I figured with the success of IP so far, and getting off of sugar might change things. So irregularity is nothing new to me but I just wanted to be able to prepare myself.

Not on any type of BC, my hubby and I accept that when it happens, we will be ready to be parents because of the risky side effects of BC. And with the tubal ligation, I have lowered my chances of getting pregnant as well. I know getting healthier will help a lot, but it's on God's time, not ours, when we get pregnant.

    Thanks for the feedback ladies.
  • My cycle is now SUPER LONG now (I am always at least a week late, sometimes two, but like you I have always been irregular). I'm also not on BC so this isn't all that surprising.
  • Within a week of starting IP I had spotting. This was continuous for 2 months. Then TOM came back after 2 awful weeks of PMS. TOM stayed continuous for two weeks, quite strong. I decided then that I needed to get off the diet since I have medicals coming up in the coming days. I can't afford to have to repeat them. I found that increasing carbs stopped TOM and spotting almost instantly. I also use progesterone cream.

I may try IP again and see whether the second time around is better. I was totally regular before with only short TOMs and am not quite comfortable with my hormones being messed up.
  • I've only been on it a month, but I had a period for the first time in 6 years. (I had an IUD in, and only last year switched to BCP.)

    Now I understand why....
  • Idk if this helps but I actually ended up ovulating for the first time ever after starting IP! I've had 14 failed infertility cycle including 4 failed IVFs, so this is huge for me! Hoping for it to continue. Best of luck with your journey!
  • I can really see how important this site will be for me while on my weight loss journey. After one week on IP, I started spotting. I had seen the sheet explaining the possiblity but now that I'm having spotting it's good to hear about others experiences. Thanks for sharing.

I've been on this 4 months, and I have an odd cycle anyway, due to PCOS, BUT... last month I spotted for 7 days, then had a full period that lasted 6 days, then spotted for another 5 days.

So yeah, the diet screws things up.

The rewards are a ton of weight loss!
  • Yep it's the diet. Any diet will do this to you because as Scorbett said, estrogen is being released into your body from the fat stores melting away.

I skipped my first month after starting IP, but then the 2nd month I had TOM for about 4-5 weeks. Then the next month was normal, then the next month I had to literally stay home for 2 days from work because I felt like a dang teenager cramping and hurting. I won't get into the details, but Regular tampoons didn't hold anything. I had to change at least 6 times in one day. Was a dang mess. Then had to go to the store to buy the most Super tampoon they had. Awful I tell you.

Now, 5 months into it, I'm normal right now. I'm sure I'll have more issues since these hormones are all over the place.

Stick with it. Once you get down to your goal weight you should most likely normal out again.

Good luck to you! I've been there. I will keep my fingers crossed
  • My first period after 2 weeks OP was so heavy I couldn't leave the house for 2 days. I sure hope that gets better!
  • Ditto...I was in, what I thought was peri menopause since July, then I started IP on March 8th and within a week, I had a super duper teenage cramping period!! Had to take a day off work, couldn't even stand up, lol!!!
Haven't had anything else since, just cramping last week. But, stored fat cells be gone!!
  • So here I am.... A week late and hair falling out! Isn't this fun?
Also at a bit of a plateau. Maybe time to get on the treadmill... Which I affectionately call the DREADMILL because that is how much I like it!
