Oh, come on, co-worker!!

  • I thought about putting this in weight loss support, but didn't think it really fit in there as it's not necessarily about supporting weight loss, haha. But anyway, on with my story:

Today, coincidentally while working in the women's plus section of the department store I work at, I found a half-eaten glazed donut sitting in the main drawer of the register stand. Every time I opened that drawer, I got a noseful of donut aroma! Really, co-worker? You're going to leave a donut in the register?? All it did was make me want a donut! And I haven't wanted a donut in god-knows how long. -shakes head- I probably should've thrown it away, but it's not my donut to throw away.

The world we live in. -sigh-
  • That's kind of nasty. Leaving half eaten food where others have to deal with it.
  • Are you referring to me or the person who left it there? It was in a zip-lock bag, so I assumed whoever left it there was saving it. I still could smell it, though, haha. I probably should've thrown in that detail.
  • I'm referring to the coworker. Still in the baggy is kinda gross.
  • Wow, that's kinda bizarre...

But I fondly remember the aroma of donuts... Mmmmmmmmm
  • That would have done me in. The aroma of donuts is practically irresistible.
  • I agree it is gross. No one should have to look at the food you've been gnawing on, healthy or not.

Secondly, it's inappropriate to eat in front of customers. That's what breaks and lunch are for. If nothing else, grab a bite from the break room when you head to the restroom.

What's she going to do, take a bite while working? Inevitably a customer will walk up at that moment when she has her mouth full and is covered in sticky glaze... that's how it always goes.
  • Let me see. You were working in the women's plus section and there was a donut in the cash register? That seems sort of ironic to me. Next time, if there's a supervisor around, contact him/her and ask if it is ok to throw it away. Couldn't decide whether to laugh over someone being so thoughtless or just shake my head at the irony.
  • I agree. That is nasty. Is it stale? I would throw it out.
  • i dont think i've ever left a donut half-eaten in my entire life! LOL

I'm not sure if you all have Dunkin' Donuts chains near you but like 15-20 years ago, all of the donuts would be baked in-house and smelled delicious when you walked into the shop. It was a heavenly smell that I always wished I could bottle up and keep to smell forever.

These days the donuts near us are all baked in one shop and then delivered around town so the smell is hardly as tempting anymore unless I have my face up against one.

But the memories this thread re-ignited!

And Lauren, you are a better person than me as the donut (or any other food) would have been chucked in the barrel if I worked there. And as a customer (plus size or not), I don't want any food (or anyone handling food and my purchase!) in that environment. (Sorry, I am cranky today!)

Or powdered sugar all over her face and dark colored top!
  • I throw away abandoned food all the time at work, but I work in.a medical clinic so I just claim that is unsanitary. My coworkers were eating German chocolate cake in the front office yesterday for a birthday celebration and I was all kinds of put out, lol! But, ya, in a clothing store I would be concerned that the donut glutton would touch my purchase with her sticky donut fingers and ruin it.

    Alaskalaughter, you crack me up!!
  • That reminds me of my coworkers who eat at their desk despite the office rule that all food must be eaten in the break room and not the the "cubicle farm." Some of the food smells quite unpleasant in the wrong context. But people still nuke their rood in the BR and then eat at their desks polluting our "farm." Sometimes when my workmates who have nearby cubicles don't follow the rules I spray my most offensive fabreeze spray all over the place. It's like smelly stuff warfare.

But donuts...I feel your pain. I'm gluten free and that sounds torturous.
