  • So I'm pondering how the skinny minnies wear heels the way they do, I can wear a pair for about 3 hours constantly standing up but past that eck nope. So I'm thinking when I get to a lower weight it should be easier, does anyone know or think this to be true?
  • No I doubt it will ever be easier to wear.. I think they sit alot and just deal with the pain.. Three hours thats excellent!! I am out of them after an hour and walking bare foot!
  • Well I'm a hairstylist and I see hairstylist wear heels and even tho I know it's not the wisest to do one day I just wanna sport a pair consistently, but eh most of the time I wear ballerina type crocs the smarter choice for my feet ofcourse
  • In a word, yes.

18-20 year old me wore 3-4 inch heels all day, everyday.
  • yes heels aren't at all as painful on skinny minnies!! As the weight drops, you will definitely be able to wear them longer.
  • I think most of it depends on the quality of the heel. Not all heels are created equal. Since I'm teacher, I'm on my feet all day too. I have some heels that I know will have me in pain by the end of the day, but are too pretty not to wear; and then I have some heels that I can wear all day without pain. Personally, I try to wear spiked heels no more than twice a week and definitely not on back to back days.

If you're looking for the most pain-free heels, I'd recommend trying out the brand Sofft. Also, for heeled boots, I'd try out Dansko. They are pricey, but soooooo worth it if you're on your feet all day and want a comfy pair. I can wear my Dansko Brielle's all day every day and my feet are comfy as ever.
  • Yes, they do get easier to wear. I still don't wear them because I'm all my feet all day, but I can spend hours wearing them if I want to.
  • Awesome! I'll check those brands out that you mentioned kariatari
  • For me, at 290 they were unwearable, at 200 they just plain hurt, and at 160 they were more or less tolerable. That makes me hopeful that at an even smaller weight they could be okay, if not comfortable.
I can, however, wear the boots at a much higher weight- not sure why.
  • It's been a long time since I was in my 20's, but when I was in my 20's (and going up and down on the scale from 200 to 350 lbs), my weight definitely was correlated with shoe-related foot pain.

The more I weighed, the more finicky I had to be about shoes.

That being said, really more people of more sizes should be careful of their feet. At my last job, I met a very thin (always thin) and very active woman (she not only went to the gym, in her spare time she coached various girls' sports teams). When I met her, she was in her early 30's and had terrible foot pain issues (her podiatrist told her it was a combination of genetics and wearing heels and ked-style athletic shoes).

Her doctor suggested that if women want to wear heels, they should wear shoes with good cushioning, arch support and of various heel lengths (always wearing flats can make wearing heels uncomfortable, and likewise always wearing heels can make wearing flats uncomfortable).
  • I remember buying a pair of heels at Kohls when I was 270lbs and being unable to wear them for more than a few minutes without being in pain. After I lost quite a bit of weight (40-50lbs) I was able to wear around the office without feeling like my feet were going to fall off.

I, too, am hopeful that it will just keep getting better as the weight falls off!
  • I can't really wear heels unless they're the blocky ones, but that's more because I'm a clod than because they're incredibly uncomfortable. It's mind boggling that it gets easier though...I've apparently lost weight in my feet, and while less downward force would reasonably mean comfier, I'd expect with a cm less padding on my feet, that would essentially nullify it.

(Not that I'd especially want to wear heels since I'm too tall for things here as it is...stupid clothes meant for people 162 cm or shorter...TT^TT)
  • I wear heels almost daily. I wore heels at my biggest, too. I guess my feet are just used to them. lol

Though, I do 100% agree it depends on the shoe. Some are better than others. I like 9west and Guess, personally.
  • I still can't deal with them for much longer than 3-4 hours, but I'm a weenie who thinks "why would I wear heels when I can wear combat boots?"
  • I wore heels at my highest weight. But no, they were not comfortable. I just gritted my teeth and bore it. Some heels are still not comfortable but they're certainly easier to wear for longer. So yeah, weight loss does help. The most comfortable heels I've worn are sandals from Born or from Uggs by far! I know, I know.... neither has a rep for making cute-looking shoes, but they do! Sandals with heels! And they're like walking on clouds... Well, walking on clouds on your tippy toes. I find wedges are infinitely more comfortable for all-day wear than skinny stilettos. And then with skinny stilettos, the kinds with platforms are always more comfy but it's still pretty much grin and bear it if I'm not wearing Born, Uggs or even Clarks heels (got a couple of cute pairs of comfy casual-semi-formal high heeled sandals from there).

But yeah, to answer your original question, I found that heels got easier to wear the lighter I got.
