  • Hello All,

I'm curious about when you decide to drop the cash for new clothes. After the 30 Day Shred I'm just about down a size and as a result many of my clothes are now too big. However, size 6s are a bit too tight yet. I'm doing another round of the shred this month so I'm optimistic I'll loose some extra inches. But should I wait until that happens?

I guess I don't want to spend the money yet, especially if the clothes don't look great. Yet, I have about 3 items in my closet now and I'm starting a graduate program in September. Thoughts?
  • I've been keeping my clothes and getting new pants when the ones I have cease to stay up. My shirts are all too big, but I figure that it's more professional to tuck them in anyway and dresses, well, even if they're huge, they're not going to fall off. Pants are definitely my main issue, so I've been going to the really cheap stores and picking up a new pair every few weeks. If you're strapped for cash (or just don't want to spend a lot on things that you think you'll shrink out of soon), I'd recommend looking for a Goodwill or a Salvation Army (personally I like Goodwill much better, but as I've never been to Minnesota, I don't know if there are any around). If they had them in Japan, I probably wouldn't shop anywhere else at this point

Personally I hate the idea of swimming in pants for a whole month, so I'd probably pick up one pair for now then re-evaluate after you've finished your workout.
  • Break out a needle and thread... try you hand at altering some of your old clothes. There is probably a website out there that can tell you how to do some of it.

And heck if you mess it up... not that big of a deal... the stuff doesn't fit anyway.
  • Hotaruchan-- I agree about the pants. There are a few "high end" consignment shops that sell band name stuff that are in good condition. I might try to see if I can grab a pair of pants there. But, I think you are right, dresses are more forgiving of size so I might try to find a few good ones to throw in my closet. Then I could wear them even after size 6 *wishful thinking*

Drix- Altering is a good idea. I might have to give it a go but my DBF is actually the better sewer of the two of us.

    Funny, Drixnot.
  • I have the same worries too. I've dropped a dress size and while I have a couple of shirts, I only have trackies but no jeans in the new size. I don't have hundreds to be spending on new clothes when I start to drop more dress sizes. I agree with Hotaruchan. Go into cheaper shops and buy a couple of new pairs of pants and tops or whatever you need. Don't go wild. Two or three pairs of pants would be plenty and a couple of cheap tops that you could wear every day. Tank tops which are cheap enough. This is my plan until I'm down to goal and a size I plan on staying so I can buy a bulk of new clothes in the new size.
  • I got all my clothes at Goodwill, Salvation Army and Consignment shops and when they got too big I donated them back. You can get some great things at these stores, I have gotten things that are brand new.
  • If you don't mind used clothing, I would suggest Goodwill if they are in your area. That is what I personally did because I knew I was continually losing and wouldn't want to make big investments. Ha, I still shop at Goodwill because I love a good bargain and there are decent clothes available.
  • I used thrift stores and places like Ross, Target's great clearance section, and Marshall's.
  • Thrift stores are a girl's best friend for the weight loss periods. Sometimes a size will go from too tight to too big for me in 2 months or less, so it's no use buying a whole new wardrobe. One way I get away with it is by wearing one pair of pants a lot, and not owning many others.
  • Go to TJ Maxx or Marshalls...they are super cheap, super cute clothes. I don't shop anywhere else!

Fortunately (or not) I have my old clothes from when I was at my goal weight so I already have clothes for all my stages
  • Thrift stores are the best for this... or askign close friends if you can borrow some clothes for a bit while... or if they have clothes they are looking to get rid of. Kijiji is good for that too.

Or take it to be altered... I know in canada you can go to a mall tailor and get them to take things in for pretty cheap.
  • I agree on thrift stores. You just need to have a good eye to see what you're looking for. Also I check the sales, like I went to Forever 21 2 weeks ago and they had a buy one get one free sale. I got two vests and paid £2. Which I think is pretty damn good. I also shop in places like H&M where you can get dresses for £7 and leggings for £6.

sorry for a daft question, but what is the 30 day shred? Sounds interesting.
  • If it's one size you might just want to hang tight and maybe just take in your clothes if you can sew. Maybe buy a thing or two here and there using everyone's (awesome) suggestions.

I usually went clothes shopping every other size, because it would have been too much of a financial hit otherwise.

I made out like a bandit a few weeks ago with that sale at F21!
