McDonalds, Wendys and other fast food

  • If on a low carb plan, what can you eat from these places?
  • Check out their websites for nutritional information. Wendy's is especially good since you can personalize the items.
  • Mcdonalds tend to have some healthy ranges, such as adding a salad to your meal.
  • a plain side salad with no dressing and a water...haha...just sayin´!
  • At McDonald's they will make you a salad from scratch if you ask. Just tell them to leave the cheese off the bacon ranch salad, get the viniagrette dressing instead, and for a dollar more they'll put an extra grilled chicken breast on it for you. It depends on the McDonald's, since they're all individually owned, but there are national guidelines and a lot of them will do that.

Of course if you are not avoiding dairy, you don't even have to customize. Their salads are actually pretty good, and much lower calorie than Wendy's new salads.

I know this because my brother-in-law owns two, not because my local McD's is an aberration or anything. Actually I haven't eaten there since I started paleo, but my sister assures me that they will make you a salad if you ask them to.
  • According to their website nutritional information:

McDonalds: Angus Delux, no bun, no cheese=6 net carbs
McDonalds: Premium Grilled Chicken Ranch, no bun=3 net carbs
Hardees: 1/3 Pound Low Carb Thick Burger=9 net carbs

I'm not much of a fast food person and haven't tried them yet but I do keep these sticky notes in my wallet with the stats in case of an emergency.
  • I get an Angus burger and only eat the meat/cheese. Its about 500 calories, a few carbs, but really filling.
  • Chicken nuggets at Wendy's...
  • thanks guys!
