I just placed my second order with Nashua! Pretty soon my pantry is going to be full of Health Smart, Proti-Diet & Proti-Thin alternatives lol. I gotta say though that I absolutely LOVE the caramel nut bar alternative, it's 100x better than IP bar.

bumping for a newbie looking for advice on alt products.

I am planning a wedding and trying to keep costs down. I did Ideal Protein a few years ago, and it worked. Doing it now, I'm finding myself really pinching the pennies. Are there any products out there along the lines of IP that I could do for a "modified" version? I want to try and drop 20-30 pounds by November 15th.

There are several alternative threads (check the Medifast alternative threads too, a lot of the listed items fit within the IP guidelines).

Some of the shake and meal replacement recipes in The Simple Diet book and thread (Dr. Anderson's Simple Diet) also fit IP guidelines (I'm following TSD, which is a bit like IP. The minimum is 3 meal replacements (Much like IP packets) 2 entrees (such as frozen dinners) and 5 or more freggie servings.

The Simple Diet does allow (but does not require) more calories and carbs than IP. I choose to follow TSD in a way that is more like IP. The advantage to TSD is that grocery store products are used, but many of the alternatives discussed in the IP and other psmf threads can be found in the grocery store.

I use It Works Global's Ultimate Profit Protein powder as a protein source. They have it in Creamy Vanilla and Rich chocolate and both are delicious.
It comes in 1.55lb package (30 x1 scoop per servings). I buy @ 69.00 per package.

The protein in 1 scoop is 14g, with 5g carbs, 1 g sugar and 3g fiber so net carbs is really 2.

I use 1.5 scoops per serving which works out at 21g protein to be more protein that most IP products and even the net carb count is better @ 3g with only 1.5 g of sugar.


Both the creamy vanilla and the rich chocolate taste great compared to most other protein powders on the market for similar prices.

The package lasts me about 2 weeks if I use it only and longer if I buy some IP packages for variety, to mix it up a bit each week.

This worked out less expensive for me as I wasn't spending 84/week on 21 IP packages as my cost was 69/week so I save $15/ week or more on the protein which goes to vegetables and water cost.

I compared week for week when I started the alternate source keeping everything the same to determine if there were differences in loss using the 2 different sources and I actually lost a little more when looking at when I use the Ultimate Profit powder compared to the previous weeks.
