Making cauliflower crust pizza! Question on sauce.

  • Ok so gonna try that cauliflower pizza tonight. I'm assuming I have to buy part skim mozzarella right? Also how about the sauce? Do I make my own or is there a sugar free sauce you guys recommend? Thanks ao much!!
  • I made this once - although I'm not on the south beach diet. Mine had some finely shredded parmesan in the crust. Are you doing this? It is not too many extra calories and really, substantially improves the flavor.

Also, make sure to pour it out super thin and wait for it to get crispy and brown before taking it out.
  • Huge hit!!! Love it and I hate cauliflower but this taste nothing like it!
  • I love it too! I like to just eat mine plain as well.
  • I tried to make this once and it just didn't come out right! Maybe I'll give it another try tomorrow.
  • I make this pretty much every week. To answer your questions - yes, I do use part skim mozzarella cheese. As for the sauce, I use low carb pasta sauce (6 carbs per serving is the lowest I've found - it is Safeway/Vons brand mushroom flavor). Make sure to mix in Italian spices in the crust - that makes a big difference in my opinion. Also, I pretty much always roast some onion and garlic and add that as a topping or mix in the crust. Delish!
  • Omg I made this for lunch! It was GREAT! How in the world can cauliflower masquerade as potatoes, rice and bread?
Next time I'll flavor the cauliflower more heavily. I topped mine with left over chili from last night and even my 2 year old couldn't get enough.
  • I've had this on my "list" to try for a long time. I'm curious if those who have made it use fresh cauliflower or frozen; I've seen recipes both ways.
  • We're having WW calzones tonight, not cauliflower pizza but you asked question about sauce. I typically mix (all measurements are approximate) one can of tomato sauce with one can of crushed tomatoes, about a 1/2 tbsp Italian seasoning, 2 tbsp parsley, 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese and simmer it for a few minutes, the longer it simmers the better it tastes and I generally make it the day before if I know I'm going to need it.
  • Thanks for all the replies. I went with Ragu no sugar added sauce. I used frozen cauliflower and I was soo pleasantly surprised how Delish it was! I added fresh basil to the "crust" and garlic. Yummy!!!
