Timing of Snacks

  • I know in P1 it is very important to have your snacks. I find I'm just not hungry for two snacks during the day and will usually only have one between breakfast and lunch. Does it matter if I have my second snack in the evening even if it close to bed and a fat like pistachios? I'm such an evening snacker and can't imagine cutting that out my life for good.
  • Regardless of what you hear..a calorie in is a calorie out...Even if you eat right before bed..your not going to gain weight over night from it..You need to consume 3000 calories and burn off nothing to gain a pound of weight..so snack away at night..The higher the protein in the snack before bed..the better chance your blood sugar will be more level in the morning and you wont have the morning munchies so desperately that you eat something you will regret..
  • If you don't want a snack, don't eat it, and yes, you can have a snack before bed if you prefer. By the way you'd have to eat 3500 calories over and above what you would burn in the course of a day to gain a pound.
  • I personally try to eat snacks, even if I'm not hungry in the afternoon. The reasoning is to keep your metabolism up. It doesn't have to be a huge snack, but its also an easy was to make sure you're getting your daily veggies, cheeses, etc. Plus I do find it helps me be more reasonable in terms of dinner portion sizes.
  • For me, the ideal goal is to snack or eat when I am physically hungry, regardless of timing. Now doing that... another thing altogether since I snack way too often!
  • Thanks, I think I should just let hunger dictate when I snack vs getting caught up in all these rules. That way I'll be able to make this a true lifestyle change.
