Binge Eating

  • Do anyone experience suffer from this? I have been in a depressive mood for several months and I think it has affected my eating. I know I'm not depressed to the extent I need medication. It's more of a "I'm dissatisfied with my life at the moment" type of depression.

I'm trying to work through the reasons why I'm not happy - I'm single, gaining weight, not satisfied with my job, and I feel like I have no direction. Since I'm not happy, I'm eating crap, which is making me more unhappy. It's like a vicious spiral.

Exercise gets me out of these moods, but right now food is winning - chocolate, candy, cookies, crap.

Does anyone have any ideas or ways of coping?

    TIA. Cheers.
  • Hi Redtrtle,

I would say force yourself to get in some exercise since it makes you feel better. Also read some success stories for motivation, enter some of the challenges here on the board and post as much as possible. I find that as soon as I leave the junk food alone, I instantly feel better mentally and physically and I have lots more energy.

    Hang in there.

Depressive moods are awful, but I second GettinFit's recommendation to make yourself exercise. When I have depressive spells I feel OK/normal for several hours after workouts and that may be the only thing that keeps me going.
