I am going to post this first one quickly so in case you are online you have a place to post. I was typing and getting ready to post and our power went out.

Bummer, I lost a whole post and have to start over so I imagine this one will be shorter. We are going to be very hot today at around 90 and with all this water around the humidity is going to be brutal. One of the corp of engineers said the Mississippi is normally 3/4 mile across, and it is currently 3 miles across!!! It is supposed to crest tonight sometime and stay that way for at least 10 days before making its way back down so I imagine Jack will be working this way for awhile.
Susan: I sure hope Glory is on the upswing. Does she have asthma or COPD issues like you do? That was some meal you were able to avoid most of. I imagine the cake alone could have put a lb on you if you ate a whole piece. Everything did sound delicious though.
Jean: Hope you, Bob and the kids had a great time together yesterday. I do wish the two kids lived close together so that we could get together as a family more often than once a year, but is isn't to be so we enjoy it when he can. Alicia called me last night to wish me a Happy Mother's Day. She had been in Indianapolis all weekend doing a mini marathon. She is such a sweetheart to think of me because Jay had already called me as did Kelly earlier in the day. Kelly bought me a gift card to Knitpicks so I will have fun picking out some new yarn when I get that. She had them email it so me, but it hasn't gotten here so far. If it isn't in my email by this evening I will let her know so she can contact them. I am sure she did it yesterday and they probably weren't processing anything yesterday. They don't do immediate stuff at that site.
Maggie: I imagine the doggys are all up and at em this morning. Fortune is driving me nuts. He wants to go out constantly, won't lay still, etc and I know it is because he doesn't understand why his routine is messed up, but it is taking its toll on me, especially when Jack is sleeping because he is barking, which he never does. He went out this morning and refused to come back in and I was in night clothes, but had to trudge out there and haul him indoors.
Not much else going on. Should finish that sock today as I am about 1/3 of the way done with the toe now and it goes pretty fast. Hope you gals all have a great start to your week. I am going to go and get some canteloupe and a piece of lowfat frozen french toast and have breakfast. Have a good one! Faye

Good morning...happy Tuesday!
I have been up since 5am and out the door at 6am to go get the bloodwork done. It's about 8:45am and I've eaten breakfast, read the newspaper, and most of my household chores are done for the day. Too bad I don't feel comfortable about going out in public; I would go to the mall. Not going outside this house only to walk to the end of the driveway to fetch the mail. I admit I'm vain (sp?) but I really don't want to scare small children! Anyway, if I stay home I don't spend money. So I'll knit. I'll read. I'll try to find a new recipe for dinner tonight--(1) that Wayne will eat and (2) one that I have the ingredients on hand. I'm thinking fish as I have some frozen flounder filets and Wayne likes that.
Donna Faye, on our news last night the newscaster said it would probably take 2-3 weeks for the water to go down?! Is that right?! I feel so sorry for everyone that lives within the flooded areas of the Mississippi. I want to learn intarsia and fair isle and I've tried on my own and it doesn't look very nice so I'm hoping the owner of my local yarn shop will hold a class on how to do one of those. I feel intimidated by it...which I know will go away because I can remember feeling intimidated about learning how to knit a sock and now I can do that so I know eventually I'll be able to knit intarsia and fair isle. Knitting keeps me calm. Since I finished the baby blanket I wanted to just knit something simple and also use the KnitPicks Harmony needles I bought. I'm knitting a dish cloth! A simple dishcloth. And the needles are wonderful!!! I didn't buy the whole set of Harmony needles; I only bought a pair of size 8s. I highly recommend them. Do you have any of those? The points are sharp and the yarn sliiiiiiiides just right! I love your gift idea for the to go coffee cups. I have a pattern for those cozies I found somewhere on-line. You know what? NOW would be a great time to knit Christmas presents!! About the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival--yes, you would be able to control yourself at some point because there is so much yarn! And a lot of the yarn prices are very very expensive especially for large projects. By going on Sunday, I did get a marked down price on some DK weight yarn that is so lovely--earth tones varigated throughout with a tweed like look to it--two hanks, 200 yards each, for a total of $20. It will be enough for some mittens and a hat for sure. I also bought 650 yards (fingering weight) of Silk Road from Kipparoo Farms--that is a beautiful pink-rose-purplish gray. That came with "Sheep Tracks Shawl" pattern. That was $42. And last but not least I bought some fingering weight yarn from one of my favorite vendors and that is Miss Babs. I bought two hanks in "Coventry" which is a tonal light creamy green and I plan on using that for a shawl. Total for that yarn is $48. I had to call it a day because well....if you could see how much yarn I already have. Donna, I donate yarn to the American Cancer Federation once a year because there is no way I'm going to be able to knit all that yarn up. BUT...my oldest daughter did say at some point she's going to learn how to kniw...and perhaps she will then "go shopping" at my house. I would love to sit and knit with you!
Maggie, oh yes, I remember how much Will loves baseball. He will be a wonderful volunteer and teacher. It's wonderful how much volunteering he does. He seems so busy! And I know he's a great preacher--remember you sent me a tape of one of his sermons waaaaaay back when! I am so scared that they will find I am diabetic from all the testing they are doing on me right now. Because whenever I tell someone what happened to me the first thing they ask is am I diabetic! And I know if THAT is true then I know it is a Godsend that I find out. Its just that I've gotten my act together in the past year where food and exercise is concerned.
Jean, bless your heart...91 degrees! I wouldn't be ready for that kind of heat either. All I can say is try to stay cool. One side of my house is also cooler. We were so excited when this house was built--all those huge windows over the three sliding glass doors in the living room....but the heat that comes through and yes, we have the glass tinted and I keep the drapes closed on the doors in the summer. This week we're only getting to around 70-74 degrees for the high and that is perfect...in my opinion.
Susan, I'm thinking of you and hoping your friend is feeling better.
Dr. Oz is on tv and I need to go watch him!
Take care everyone--I'll peek back inside later.
Good morning, ladies! It's 65 degrees right now.
Yesterday was applique bee at Bella and then I went to Glory's. She's a little better but not much. Today is work, the Y, quilt guild and Glory.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all had Skyp so we could see each other and talk - and knit together!
Faye, I see the MS River crested 1 foot lower than the big flood back in '37. What a mess that will be. It's funny because I got my annual flood insurance premium yesterday. Paid it today. I was thinking the MS was much wider at Memphis. The James River is 5 miles + through here. My scarf is coming along. We quilters also have a quilted version of the cozy for coffee cups. I made up a pattern for one for water bottles years ago. People love them because it keeps your desk or table dry.
Jean, you sure are hot! We're way below normal temperatures. My laundry room is on the second floor and I absolutely love it. No more toting clothes downstairs and up, just a few things from downstairs that I can carry in one hand. People who don't want to pay for insurance shouldn't expect handouts when disaster strikes. Responsible ownership means protecting your holdings. The people here are carrying on because FEMA isn't going to pay for those without insurance to rebuild and repair.
Gail, I have a sunroom. that is all windows on 3 sides and then 3 skylights in the roof. Sounded like a good thing at the time. It was so hot. I had all the windows and skylights replaced with thermal panes that have an R factor for the tropics. It's now a nice and cool room year round. We have several farms in Gloucester that have alpacas and llamas and sell wool rovings for spinning and finished yarn. It is so soft and beautiful and so, so expensive! 2 years ago I went to Mathews Market Days with 2 of my friends and we were walking along and suddenly Shelly wasn't there. We started retracing where we had walked and found her laying on the ground with an EMT over her. Low blood sugar made her faint. Now we make sure she eats before we go somewhere and regularly if we are out all day. I don't think I'd leave the house bruised either.
Maggie, Will is such a keeper. If you don't mind telling me, what happened to your leg? It's okay if you don't want to talk about it. We don't have basements here because of the high water level.
I fell in love with a McKenna Ryan (designer) quilt that is going to be a block of the month (each month we get another block) quilt at Bella. I've attached a picture below. Perfect for this area. I just love the colors.
Have a great day!
