  • New here, wanting to know if anyone has had any luck with Slim Fast? I am thinking of starting it on Monday.
  • Um, I have not. I did try it out of desperation one time, but it was short-lived and I anything I might have lost came back quickly when I stopped. Now, I do know someone who did it and has been using Slim Fast for years. I don't think it's really a healthy long term plan, though.
  • I dont follow the plan I do calorie counting. I use their shakes as a fast breakfast on the go because they are low in calories and they do keep me full.
  • I keep SlimFast on hand for a quick breakfast, when I run out of milk for my protein shake. SlimFast blended with a banana or maybe a few fresh strawberries is a good substiture. I don't think having SlimFast 2 or 3 times a day is harmful as long as the rest of your meals are wholesome, nutririous, low calorie foods.
  • I used it a few years ago and dropped some weight for my wedding but I only did if for like 2 months and it was effective at helping me drop a little over 15 pounds. BUT and there is a big BUT here, it's not sustainable and it doesn't do anything for teaching you to eat well and monitor calories which is what you'll need long term to keep weight off. If you only need to lose 10-20 pounds that crept up, it can be an ok tool.

I do still use their shakes from time to time as meal replacements but it's part of my healthier eating plan, it's not the entirety of my healthy eating plan.

If you have a lot of weight to lose and want to get on a plan that you can turn into a lifestyle, there are probably better plans for you. Plans that will take the reaching and drastic measures that most people think they need out of the weight loss equation and teach healthy habits.
  • I use it only when I'm in a crunch for meal time. I'll bring one to class in order to get a shot of protein and keep me full. Other than that, I'm not on the diet plan, but I support it as a good quick meal when you're in a pinch.
  • I'd tried it in the past, but I just don't do well on any plan that requires me to drink my calories. I like to CHEW stuff.

For 220 calories, I could chew a whole lot of tasty stuff. If you want to have it around to use in a pinch if you're super pressed for time, I guess it could work, but it just seems better to eat calories than to drink them. They just feel like they stick around longer, y'know?
  • Ive been following the basic plan concept since I started, I have a shake for breakfast and a meal bar for lunch and 2 snacks that range from 80-150 cals apiece depending on what i choose then have something for dinner, in the begining i stayed around 1200 as the plan suggested then i upped it to under 1800 and recently lowered it to 1400 because i found myself cheating too much and it was hindering me.

all the plan really is is calorie counting to a number of your choosing with the assistance of a meal replacement for one or two meals. with your starting weight I would suggest perhaps 1800 or 1600 and supplementing their meals with some fruit or nuts or something.
  • nope. i don't really see the sense in replacing a meal with a calorie dense fluid.
  • I guess my question would be "has anyone used Slim Fast and maintained their weight loss for ____ years?" I have known many people who have used Slim Fast to lose some weight, and they've been successful, but none of them have kept the weight off. Isn't that what we all really want? I've never heard anyone say "I can't wait to get this weight off so I can turn around and gain it all back." Slim Fast seems like a quick fix to me and in my opinion, don't waste your money.
  • people dont gain the weight back because slim fast itself is bad, its because they do like dieters of ANY diet can fall into, they go back to the same eating pattern that gained them the weight in the first place.

Yes, I agree, it's not the fault of Slim Fast. It's the quick fix mentality, and in my opinion, Slim Fast falls into that category.

I will never understand why someone will waste their money on a sugary drink when real, wholesome food is much better for you and, sustainable and cheaper. I also can't imagine doing anything that you won't be able to sustain for a lifetime. Since this is about a lifestyle change and not just losing weight. Is anyone going to be able to drink Slim Fast for the rest of their life, or want to? I wouldn't.
  • I'm like bargoo - I've used SlimFast mostly for a quickie breakfast when I didn't have time to eat, or didn't feel like eating but didn't want to go on an empty stomach. Always the chocolate drink... never used any of their other products. I think it's fine for a quick INFREQUENT meal replacement, but I wouldn't count on it for true weight loss.
  • Thanks everyone, I appreciate the imput and advice
  • SlimFast doesn't do anything to curb my appetite. I'm still hungry after using it. I will use it sometimes though. I still prefer to load up on carrots, and other raw veggies rather than a liquid shake. I feel more satisfied with the real, solid food in my stomach. I am pretty much vegetarian though, so the extra protein I definitely need on occasion.
