Good evening, ladies!Only in the 60s today, but a lovely day.
I have roses blooming and the strawberry farm had an ad in the paper today that they are ready to pick. YUM! I went and did a little shopping with my friend this afternoon. We haven't done anything in a while so it was good to catch up.
Faye, poor Fortune! I'm sure that doggy yogurt will cost 10x the people variety. Here you are all beautiful with your new hair cut and color - Jack should take you to dinner tonight!
Jean, it seems like you just closed the cabin at the lake and here it's time to get it ready to open again! Time goes so fast.
Maggie, I always thought the terrorists could shut this country down without firing a shot by getting into the credit and debit cards. I'm glad they are taking care of it for you without a fuss.
Hi, Gail!
Have a great evening.
Good afternoon, ladies! Overcast today and only in the 60s.
We have nuclear power plant in Surry, right on the James River and near here and the headline in the paper today was "Could Surry Surive a Tornado? Here's how they did it!" The tornado that did so much distruction April 16 had also hit the plant, the reactors lost power but the backup generators kicked right on. There was a lot of damage to the power station and a storage shed, but none to the reactors. They called everyone in and had everything back on line within 12 hours.
We had an Archbishop from the Vatican celebrate Mass with us this morning. He spoke impecable English. Father Mike had actually met and spoken with Pope John Paul II. Since he is being beatified in the Church this day, it was interesting to have him tell us about it.
Maggie, thanks for the May Calendar. I was just thinking how simple it would be to copy down one of the debit card numbers and then put it back and then keep trying until it was sold and there was money on it. Scary! You'll have a lovely garden for sure.
Jean, it seems only right that everyone who uses the cabin should do some of the maintenance on it, without being asked. Crops are in and up about a foot. Farmers are hoping for a bumper cotton crop while the price is so high.
Faye, I hope you enjoyed your day with Kelly and her family. Thomas is sure to be a super star when he is an adult. He has already accomplished so much.
Time to do a little reading. Have a blessed Sunday.

Good morning! Y'all might as well to go get a cup of coffee, iced tea, and/or a bottle of water because this is going to be a loooong post.
Let's talk about the good stuff first. I had a wonderful Friday morning. I ran all kinds of errands and still had the time to go to WW. I lost .6 of a pound. After the meeting I ran more errands including lunch and going to the grocery store.
Everything went downhill at 3:45pm. That's right. Make note of that time. (I'm trying to insert a little humor here. Bear with me.)
The phone rang. Sometimes that's not a good thing. It was a nurse from a hospital in Va. Beach. My father-in-law was admitted through the emergency room. After talking with the nurse in ER and also with my father-in-law, Marvin, here's the story. (Also keep in mind my FIL is a very active, sharp as a tack, dance-loving 86 year-old going on irresponsible 22 year-old).
He was out in his backyard, planting tomato plants. He was kneeling. When he got up he twisted his foot in such a way that made him fall. When he fell he fractured his femur close to the knee cap. Luckily for him, the next door neighbor was outside and heard his cries for help. She phoned the rescue squad and the took him to the ER at the hospital. Meanwhile, he's worried he's going to miss that night's dancing with the 60 Plus crowd.
After trying to reach Wayne on his cell (he was in a dead zone for cell phones at the plant at the time) and after a few tries of that and leaving message and also texting him, it took me forever (it seemed that way to me) to find the phone number for his company. Finally found that and got through to Wayne which I must say they didn't leave me hanging on the phone long. By this time it's about 4:30pm. By the time, Wayne got home it was close to 6:00pm because of the terrible traffic. After he talked with his Dad, it was decided that we would go down to Va. Beach early the next morning. Marvin is being taken care of and there was nothing for us to do.
So at 5:15am on Saturday morning the alarm goes off and I jump out of bed. Getting Wayne out of bed was another story, he was so tired from working that week, he was worn out but finally managed to get going at 6:30am and we left (finally) at 7:00am. (Forgot to tell you that while Wayne was on the phone with his Dad the night before, all Marvin could talk about was that dance he's missing. Kind of annoyed the you-know-what out of Wayne as Wayne was extremely tired and all his Dad wanted to talk about was the dance...He goes to at least 5 dances a week.)
So, we're at the hospital. We speak with Marvin. They have him on pain meds. He's still talking about dancing. We learn from the nurse that he was supposed to have an operation. Marvin didn't just break a leg to have it set. Nope. Not my father-in-law. He's going to have an operation. BUT because he blood cell count was not at a good level they were giving him some blood platelets so hopefully later that afternoon he will have his operation. (Keep in mind Wayne has to be back to work on Monday--today--or he will lose his job....and his Dad is still talking about the dance he missed the night before and now he's missing the Saturday night dance with the Parents Without Partners crowd.)
Finally, at 4:30pm he going to the operating room. We talk with his anestesiologist, his surgeon (these doctors are looking younger every day) and the surgeon says that he should send the x-rays of Marvin's leg to the Smithsonian in Washington DC as he hasn't seen a worst looking knee. He said BEFORE he fractured the femur, his leg was not right and didn't know how the man could walk much less dance. And yes, the surgeon was well aware of how much dancing Marvin does. The surgeon tells us in front of Marvin that AFTER the surgery and AFTER the healing has been done he doesn't recommend Marvin dancing. Marvin mutters "Just shoot me now and get it over with."
After a two hour surgery and one hour of recovery time in the operating room, we see the surgeon again. Again, he repeats all he's told us before and tells us Marvin is in for a loooong recovery period. He will be in the hospital for 4 days. Then he will be transferred to a rehabilitation center (and if Marvin doesn't get to go to the one he wants to....it will not be a good scene) for about 3 weeks....and then he will probably be moved to an extended care facility for as long as the doctor sees fit. Marvin will have to be mobile on a walker before he can be released.
....stay tuned...I'll finish....
Good afternoon, ladies! It's up to 75 degrees today but Faye's rain is coming my way.
I went to the Y this morning and did my water aerobics class and then followed that up with Water Zumba. 2 hours = 850 calories - 10 APs. The water Zumba schedule changed this month so I can now do that twice a week. It's lots of fun. I swear I don't know how, but I get to sweating in that class even though I'm in the water. Just housework the rest of the day.
Gail, what a story! I'll put your FIL on our prayer chain. I say at his age if he can dance, let him. It couldn't shorten his life by much. I hope your sty clears up quickly.
Faye, Stan had Flagyl several times, too, and it always made him nauceous. Nasty stuff but it does the job. I'd have had several of those chocolate covered strawberries for sure! Glad you had a good time and are feeling better.
Jean, I see why you do all the maintenance now. That's nice of Bob.
Hi, Maggie!
Enjoy your day!
