Default Harira

Hi, I'm new to the boards and to SB ... consider this recipe my "hostess gift." I think it's legal, feel free to tell me if it's not.

HARIRA

2 Tbs. butter
1 onion, chopped
2 ribs of celery, chopped
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. turmeric
1/8 tsp. ground cinnaomn
1 3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 cup lentils
6 1/2 cups liquid (water and/or vegie broth)
1 3/4 cups canned crushed tomatoes (1 15 oz. can)
1 2/3 cups drained and rinsed canned chickpeas (1 15 oz. can)
1/3 cup chopped cilantro or parsley

Melt butter over moderately low heat. Add the onion and celery and cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables start to soften, about 10 mins. Stir in the ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, pepper, and lentils.

Add the liquid and tomatoes. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, partially covered, stirring occasionally, until the lentils are tender, 25-30 minutes. Add the chickpeas and simmer 5 more minutes. Stir in the cilantro or parsley. Serve with ww pita.
