Stupid mistake

  • I am so mad at myself right now. I decided to wash my jacket that I take to the gym and when I took it out of the washer I realized that it had my mp3 player in the pocket My husband said that it might still work if I don't turn it on and let it dry out for a day or two. Please let that be true. Has anyone else done something like this before?
  • I forgot I'd left my USB stick in my jeans pocket once, had it in there for the whole day, jeans got muddy, chucked them in the wash when I got home.

    USB stick still worked =)
  • I've dropped my iPhone in a sink of dirty dishwater. I've dropped it in muddy icy big ole puddles. I've left my iPod in my car to get frozen over, until it formed ice crystals on the inside of the screen...

    All still work

Just be very sure that it is as dry as possible before you turn it on! I'd give it a few days
  • My phone got wet once. Take the batteries out and put it in a bowl of uncooked rice for a few days. It will help dry it out!
  • My son's expensive cell phone got dropped in a puddle as well.

A friend told us to place it in rice. Apparently rice is excellent as a water extractor. It worked perfectly.
  • princess-sorry, we crossed posts. LOL

Yes, make sure it's UNCOOKED rice....hehe
  • Thanks guys You have given me hope. Luckily it only cost about $30. If it doesn't work I'll just use it as an excuse to buy an ipod since I have always wanted one. (Silver lining and all that)
  • I third the rice.
I knocked a glass of orange juice into my partner's laptop. 24 hours of being submerged in rice saved it.
But DON"T touch it for at least 48 hours. Put it into the rice and don't try turning it on. From what I've heard, the hardware can outlast being wet; what kills it is when you force the circuits to work when wet.
  • The first night I had my old iPhone 3G, I leaned over to put on my desk without looking and put it directly into a glass of water. It wasn't totally submerged like yours, but it did recover just fine.

THEN, last year, right after I got the iPhone 4, I was in a bad car accident that caused an almost-full 44 oz. Diet Coke to spill onto my phone, leaving it sitting in a puddle for about 20 minutes until the medics checked us out and I went back for it. That also recovered perfectly, but it took a couple of days. It was shutting itself on and off and the flash wouldn't turn off, so I left it off for a day and then it was fine.

Oh, and I've had 2 Macbooks survive bad spills — one with a glass of Diet Coke and one with a full cup of chocolate soy milk So there is hope!!

    Good luck!!
  • Yeah defff do NOT turn on for a couple days. If you can take the front off that might help too. Best of luck!

(or just break it "accidentally" and get an ipod...they're not too spendy anymore)
  • I put it in a bag of rice last night and I won't try to turn it on until late Wednesday night. I am going to borrow my husband's player on Wednesday so that I have something to listen to. Oh and oddreee you made me laugh I am glad that I'm not the only one out there. This comes very close to driving away from taco bell without my lunch and not realizing it until I got to work and it was too late. I never knew I could eat so many certs.
  • *gasp* not taco bell!!!

I would leave work and explain the crisis at hand.
  • I've done this...twice. Yep, twice. I now just use my I-phone if I want to listen to music. I do miss both I-Pods. They were very nice. Sucks to be me.
  • It worked! Thanks a lot guys
