    We are the Golden Girls...

    There is Value in us
    There is Power in us
    There is Wisdom in us
    And Laughter....
We are a rainbow of unique wonders,
    There is love in us.
    (poem by Dorothy Holmes)

Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark? How about the 60 mark?
Friends laugh, cry and stand by each other, we'll be that to you!

I know it means alot to Mom for you guys to know that she is ok. Thank you all for being so supportive for her!
    Say a prayer for her!!
    akroseys daughter,
    lauralou
  • Lauralou, Thanks so much and prayers and good thoughs are headed your way! Please let her know that we are all thinking of her and send bunches of Golden Girl Love!!!:
  • What motivates me to lose weight?
My grandmother lived to 97, my mom to 95, an aunt to 107, my great-grandmother to 102.
I comefrom a family that has a long life span.
So I decided I must lose weight and be more active or I might not make it to 100.
I am very active and do a lot of gardening.
I lost 23 pounds since June, and I plan on losing a lot more next year!
    Best of luck to everyone!
  • Thanks for the update Lauralou on Rosey, we definitely have her in our prayers.
Welcome Jolina, Wow.....you do come from a long line of centenarians. My dad is 96 and still healthy and his dad was 102 when he died. On my moms side my great aunt was 103. I don't think I'll live that long because I've abused my body too many years with artificial foods, sweetners, booze and cigarettes at one time. But you never know how long we'll live and cleaning up our act is a big step in the right direction. 23 pounds is great progress in the right direction!Welcome again to the Golden Girls.
  • Evening all.....hummmmmmmmmmm sitting here with an ice pack. I volunteed to run the game tomorrow. So have been cooking/baking since I got home at 5pm. Have the Supreme carrot cake cooling. This has everything laying loose tossed in. Coconut, crushed pineapple, raisens, and pecans. They say it is wonderful. I have never taken a bite. But it is kinda my signature cake(me and Betty Crocker). Made72 wee ham and cheese sandwiches with my secret sauce(ICBINB lite)...no one believes me when I say that....true but they'd rather have a secret sauce! Have lots of fresh vegies and a dip. Chips. And still have to make the pinwheels. Roll ups of cream cheese with chopped olive salad. Dash loves the olives....only I'd have that weird a dog! Kicked right back into the promise i made here a few years ago not to taste or eat anything i make for bridge. Funny didn't even try...thanks guys

Should be a interesting day. The people there today were grouchy and mean to each other. I won't tolerate that when am in charge. May introduce my self like "Chuckie"....I'm Bacccccccck! Zero Tolerance means just that.

Gee, Rosie's surgery is 3pm her time what time is that east Coast time? Supper time I think....I always hated late afternoon appointments. Makes a long day waiting around.....

Well back to the kitchen. Still have to pack up my briefcase and that kinda stuff .....re retireing after tomorrow.....hugs, karen3

    ps welcome Jolina
  • Can someone remind me what kind of surgery Rosie is having? I know she said her sisters had it done but I can't remember what exactly what. I wanted to google it and see what Rosie was in for.
  • Bobbi ~ I found this on Donna's post at the end of the Nov thread.

(Bobbi, Rosey is having a gastric by-pass.)
  • Quick update....
I just talked with Rosey's daughter. The surgery has been pooped up to 8:00 a.m., instead of 3 p.m., which is GOOD. Laura said she'd try to post tomorrow (she's in Oregon and is getting everything second hand), but if she said to call tomorrow afternoon if we haven't heard from her. She said Rosey is in high spirits (even with the GoLightly!) and is looking forward to her "new" self!

The surgery is gastric by-pass... and here's a video of the procedure: http://www.realize.com/dtcf/pages/wh...ss-surgery.htm
  • We lost my Aunt this morning and it is very sad. But how neat is that to be able to go and meet Jesus on your 94th. Birthday!! We loved her and will miss her a lot.
  • So sad to hear your aunt passed away. You will miss her.
    Take care.

  • Good Morning Everyone,

Did 50 min walk/run today. Holding at 150 lbs.

Going to scrapbooking today - it's been so long since we went (my friends have been ill) that I'm afraid I will have forgotten our Italy trip - this is what I will be scrapping today.

My class begins today - they have me teaching 25 students - in the past have not had more than 15. This should be interesting.

Laura Lou, thank you for keeping us posted. We care about your mom VERY MUCH and she is in our thoughts and prayers.

    Jolina, WELCOME!

Karen, so sorry for your loss. My best wishes to you and your family.

    Will check back tonight,

    Lynn
  • Good Morning Girls
Karen.....sorry for your loss, what a great way to put it, "meeting Jesus on her 94th birthday." Is that your mom or dads sibling?
Donna...you are a doll, thanks for that video of Rosies surgery. I was thinking they take out the large stomach but maybe not. I will check into it again when I have more time. I have my 2nd Doc appointment and need to get ready for that.
    Prayers to Rosey
  • Hi Bobbi, She is my Moms sister. She was one of 12 and my Aunt, who will be 84 in April is the baby and the last of the 12. She was so wonderful. And at least she never had to spend any time in a nursing home and she was still playing dominoes about 2 weeks ago and could beat just about anyone! Loved her dominoes!!
  • Good Morning, All...
Karen, I'm so sorry for your loss! I think it's wonderful that you're so close to all your aunties (and are such a good niece to them!).... thoughts and prayers are with you!

Bobbi, good luck with this dr. apptment.... I hope they figure out something that you can fix! And I LOVE your new Maxine!

    Good thoughts for Rosey!

PT/Zoe, Everyone..... it's December! Happy Almost Christmas!!
