breastfeeding and losing weight

  • Is anyone out there trying to lose weight while breastfeeding? I have a 6 1/2 month old and have been doing Richard Simmon's diet for 8 weeks now. I've lost 12 pounds, which I think it good, but I lost it all in the first 5 weeks and the scales haven't moved for three weeks. I'm taking in 200 calories more than what his plan suggests for my weight to compensate for nursing. I don't know if my body just won't let go of anymore because of nursing, or if I need to take in more or less calories. I called my hospital's lactation consultants, and they aren't much help. Does anyone out there have any suggestions or encouragement??
  • I'm having trouble losing
I hope I'm posting correctly. Am new here & am very confused with this forum LOL.

My son is 10.5 months old. I've been watching my cals/fat & exercising regularily since the beg. of March and have only lost 14 pounds so far. It was 2 months before I even saw any loss (I gained 3) - it was very frustrating. I've been told that the body is desperately trying to hold onto the weight because of the b/f'g...like it's in defense mode. If that's the case then I'd better drop at least 10 as soon as I'm done b/f
  • Hi new moms. There are a few of us moms posting in a thread currently called Post Pertun Soapies, it was a misspell, supposed to be Post Partum and the Soapies refer to the fact that a couple of our moms make and sell their own soap and other bath products. feel free to post with us, we talk about our kids as well as dieting and exercise.

Now talking about breast feeding, I did not have that pleasure as my son, now 9 1/2 months old, refused to latch on. I pumped for about 12 very long weeks every 3-4 hours without fail. I lost all but 8 of my pregnancy pounds in that time. I've heard of women that gain weight while breastfeeding but generally most lose I believe. It took me about 4 more months to get those 8 lbs off which I finally did following Weight Watchers.
  • I had my baby 3 weeks ago and have just started dieting doing WW with extra points for the b/f .. All the books say b/feeding is the best way to lose weight gained during pregnancy as your body stored it just to use when b/f , I sure hope this is the case I hadnt heard of it being hard to lose weight during b/f , now im worried Hope I will be able to lose, so far ive lost about 24 pounds since i gave birth but have no idea how many was in the last 3 weeks , will let u know how i go now im monitering it
