  • Does anyone here use silk soymilk for cereal or even as it is? I have been on medifast for the past 2 months and this is my last week on it for financial reasons. I have been trying to develop my own low cal/low carb diet in order to make sure I do not gain back the weight I have lost the past 2 months. I looked in to Silk Soymilk because my old roommate drinks it and she likes it a lot and I thought maybe the light plain/vanilla Silk might be good on cereal and the light Chocolate Silk would be good to cure that craving.

Also I have read some places of people using chocolate soymilk on their cereal, such as special k chocolatey delight, as a low calorie dessert.

    Any input?
  • It's good, though I much prefer low fat cow's milk, which is cheaper and is actually manufactured by an animal’s mammaries.
  • I prefer the taste of soy milk to cow's milk, although I usually don't buy Silk brand. I have, and I like it... lately though I have been buying the kind that comes in a box and is shelf stable till you open it. I put it on cereal or just drink it by the glass.
  • I have had the So Good brand before. I have tried vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. I have also been intrigued to try soy milk on my cereal. I have seen a girl in my nursing class use the vanilla flavor on her cereal. I'm just not sure how vanilla would taste opposed to just plain on cereal. I'll have to experiment one day when it goes on sale. I've heard some good things on Rice Dream so I may try that brand next...
  • My DH uses Silk as his soy of choice. He has a mild lactose intolerance issue, so he uses Silk in his lattes every morning. He loves it...

  • You use it just like regular cow's milk. You can use it on cereal, smoothies, bake with it...

There's also almond milk that is pretty good!
  • I like goat milk but it isn't cheap so it's probably of no help to you. I'm not a big fan of soy so I've never used soy milk. May I ask why you'd rather use that then just regular milk?
  • I use silk in my cereal almost daily. I've never really liked reg milk, and now that I've tried soymilk I'll never go back.
  • are the calories in silk really lower than the calories in ff cows milk? I would think they'd be higher. Obviously, I don't eat either one often, because I hate to waste my calories in liquid form.
  • I can't stand soy milk. It tastes nothing like milk, to me it just tastes nasty. I use skim or 1% milk.
  • When I could have soy I used to love SoySlender especially their Cappuccino flavor. I used to use the unflavored/original on my cereals all the time. (It's shelf stable so it would be on a shelf in the natural foods section). I didn't use the Silk brand as it had too many sugars (and therefore, calories) and my local market seldom had the light version.

Now I have unsweetened Almond Breeze (also shelf stable). It comes in original/unflavored, chocolate & vanilla. It has good protein and is low in calories.

you reminded me, silk use to have a mocha flavor that I just loved! I haven't seen in it in years though.
  • I use soy milk, rice milk, almond milk, hemp milk, etc.

I generally go for the unsweetened versions rather than the light versions. I rather have a little fat than the added sugar.
  • I love soy milk and use different brands. I generally use unflavored versions and lowfat if I can find it. I've used the flavored ones but prefer the regular.
  • I just bought some Silk Light-Vanilla soy milk today. I tried a sip of it and I'll never drink skim milk again!

It's 80 cal for a cup (the same as my skim milk) and I think it would be GREAT on cereal or in coffee. It seems a little creamier than skim milk.
