Did the recommended workout. Confessions and discoveries

  • Okay so I did the workout suggested to me in my last thread
    Quote:
    1. Military pushups (3 sets of 8-10). Elevate feet for added resistance if needed.

    2. Seated Rows (3 sets of 8-10)

    3. Shoulder presses (3 sets of 8-10)

    4. Standing tricep extensions (3 sets of 8-10)

    5. Squats (3 sets of 8-10)

    6. Lunges (3 sets of 8-10)

    7. Crunches (3 sets of 8-10) (use a weight plate or 2 if these are too easy)
except I had to do 'girl push ups' because every.single.time I tried to do regular pushups let alone military grade, I fell on my face or darn newar. and I had to do the tricep extensions one arm at a time cause doing it with both arms just was.not.happening.

So what I've learned for today:

    1. I am more out of shape than I thought
    2. It is possible to sweat like a paid lady in church 'just' lifting weights
    3. I am more out of shape than I thought.
  • Tee hee! Good for you!

'Just lifting weights' can be incredible cardio as well as all the other stuff. I'm usually panting, sweating and bright red while I'm lifting. Doing compound exercises like the ones above, I burn as many calories in 40-45 mins of lifting as I do in 30 minutes of running. It's real work.

Take tomorrow off. No working the same body part on consecutive days!
  • lol, yes, free weights and "big" exercises are harder than machines and quite humbling! Keep at it!

The first workout always feels like that. Then a week or so later you are amazed at how far you have come in a short time.

    Ain't it great!

That only means the progress will be all that much greater.

    EXCELLENT JOB!

there's no way I'm working out today. Oh no, no way. sore. sore and a bit sore.

yeah. I'm sore in my lower body today, which confused me a bit cause I didn't feel anything in my lower body last night after I was done {I felt it during squats, believe me.

except the walking funny in a small town part, h*ll yeah. I'm still on a bit of a rush/high, though I did crash at about 3 a.m. and got the best night of sleep since DH deployed

Thanks. I can't believe how much better I feel already. I expected to be totally worn out and I'm not. Sore as heck but not worn out.
  • You'll find that you really do sleep SOOOOO much better on the nights that you workout like this. I'm learning that when I skip working out, my sleep is much more restless!

And usually if I'm going to get sore, it shows up on the 2nd day. The 2nd day is always the worst!

  • I'm back. I had the flu and it really exacerbated the after effects of my workout. I'm probably nuts for doing this, but I'm headed back to the workout room in a minute to do a session while my resolve is strong. It's almost eleven p.m. but I usually don't go to bed til 2 a.m. or later.
