  • You don't need lots of carbs for muscle growth. Protein, yes, but not carbs. In fact, many bodybuilders use ketogenic diets to burn fat without losing muscle mass.

    I try to get about .8-1 gram of protein / lb of body weight. It's not difficult, even on a restricted calorie diet, if you like cottage cheese, chicken, lean meats, etc. It's harder if you're vegetarian. A high-quality protein powder can help, too - just make sure the one you buy doesn't have many carbs (some are sweetened with stevia, others with sugar in one form or another).
  • Body For Life For Women is a good muscle building program that easily adapts to the Low GI way of eating. There's a regular program and one just for women. I think the women's version is much better.
