Not an Easter bunny myself, but did survive my mother's delicious (but high sugar) Kosher for Passover cookies. They are an old family recipe (my grandmother's) so they are as much of a family tradition with me as the Seder. My DD's b-day is also coming up--fortunately after Passover so she can eat a real cake.

The interesting part about her birthday: how much I tweak recipes now to make them healthier. It's so automatic for me now. I'm making a devil's food cake for her--cut the sugar and fat in half, use applesauce, use some grapeseed oil. For the frosting, use silken tofu blended with baking cocoa. Use ff yogurt to give things some tang.

Just an example of how things work around here lately. OTOH, at a friend's house yesterday, she baked "traditional" brownies and I had oh, let's see, three of them late afternoon. Had a nice sugar crash 30 mins. later and felt lousy until bedtime. Falls into the lapse, not relapse, category.

Hi Meg & Elana,

Easter was nice, my Mom hosted and had TONS of candy in bowls all over the house. My sister & I ran around putting them up on high shelves because our children were stuffing themselves with it. Somehow I managed to pass on all the goodies and just eat ham, veggies and some sweet potato.

The scale is down another pound. I've been trying to weigh once/month but I had to check this morning because I've really been keeping my diet and exercise regular and clean! Baby is crying, so must run.

Good Morning - Easter was delicious..... unfortunately.

Starting anew today. Give me the strength to stay away from the chocolates.
Luckily the divine Easter dinner was at the neighbors - so no leftovers.

Have a great day all.

I had a good, relaxing Easter. Dinner consisted of an apricot glazed pork roast and tons of roasted vegetables (asparagus, new potatoes, green beans, baby zucchini, and Brussels sprouts). I didn't over eat. I did have 2 very carefully measured 7 oz glasses of wine. My weight jumped up 1.5 pounds, though! Ugh. Staying OP today to get that back. I'm so psyched my weight has been going down--it sure is a good motivator!

Hi everyone, We didn't do anything special for Easter. So, no candy here.

My DD is also trying to lose weight and has been doing well with it. She has went down from 145 to 140 over the last 2 weeks. I'm trying to make sure she is eating enough which she is. She does get upset that some of her friends at school are teasing her and trying to push food on her. I have made broccoli for her every single day (with her dinner) because it's one of the few veggies that she likes.

I weighed this AM to see how I did with having my SD here all last week. I did just fine. I'm still in my goal range and happy with this. Since my Dr. is such a grouch about my wt. , I'd like to lose 2 more lbs. by the end of this month. But, my wt. doesn't seem to want to go lower. I'm just gonna try to keep my calories at 1400-1600 daily and get my exercise in, and try not to worry about it. I am absolutely thrilled to have went from 230's down to 140's and I don't know why he can't seem satisfied with this? I keep telling myself that I look good, I feel good and to ignore him. I don't specifically need to be any smaller!

Hi everyone!

We have two cadbury eggs sitting on our counter waiting for passover to end tomorrow! I'm actually pretty surprised that the Passover diet seems to have worked, especially considering we ate a can and a half of macaroons over the past three days. My scale was at 132 this morning (down from 133/134) and my fiance weighed in down 5lbs to 191 at the gym Friday.

Anyway I guess that just goes to show how many calories I usually get from rice and pasta. Of course after the deprivation I am planning on eating both this coming week!

Actually I know the real reason the Passover diet works -- because it gives me the extra willpower to resist the junk food at work. Today there are donuts, a coconut cake with some kind of fruit filling, easter pie, scones, and more cake sitting around the office (people's easter leftovers!). If it wasn't Passover I know I would have eaten at least one of those items, but since none of them are allowed I haven't touched them!

My fiance liked the meatloaf I made last week so much he had me make TWO meatloafs (meatloaves?) last night so we'd have more leftovers! That's a lot of meatloaf for two people!

Elana -- I splurge on desserts for special occasions, but most of the time my dessert recipes come from Cooking Light (like everything else I cook). So they are already tweaked a little bit! Sometimes I do even more tweaking by substituting whole wheat pastry flour and yogurt for the fats.

Allison -- your dinner sounds delicious!

Today I'm going back to my wrist doctor. I wasn't supposed to go back until May 9, but I was having extra problems so they scheduled me in earlier. Of course in the three days since I called to make the appointment it's gotten mostly better, but I figured at this point it was too late to cancel. I'm guessing he will just tell me to chill out and come back May 9.

Good afternoon all! Easter here was a big success. DD turned 15 on Saturday so she did request cherry turnovers and chocolate lava cake, but I only had one turnover. Sweets aren't my problem, it's savory stuff, so I ate too much lunch on Sunday. I made turkey ham, baked sweet potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower, mac&cheese and rolls. I didn't do too bad, but did have a bigger than needed serving of mac&cheese. Oh well, it was just one meal, right? The weather here was freezing (as I know it was almost everywhere). I took the kids to the Easter egg hunt in the snow on Saturday. Brrrr!

Lisa, that is so interesting about sweets vs. savory. I know sweets are a much bigger problem for me personally. I wonder about everyone else! Anyone want to chime in? Do you have a weakness for cakes and cookies and sweets, or for pizza and burgers and savory foods?

I used to have a real sweet tooth. Give me savory any day now!!!! Ummmm, cheese! Anything rich and creamy. Yeah, I'll eat sweet if it is put in front of me, but I don't go out of my way to eat it or make it.

My biggest weakness is chocolate cake. Seems I can resist most other things. The only time this is in our home is on Birthdays and I find that I do best if I throw it away the next day, just to get it out of here before I eat it all.

I do crave/miss Pizza sometimes. I've had it only twice in almost 2 yrs.

I just came in from checking my garden. The cold spell ruined my tomato plants, so I'll have to replant some next week.

Sweets, eh, not usually a huge problem. But salty snacks and savory stuff, stand back. My DH has a real sweet tooth, and we always have ice cream and often baked goods in our house. Right now he's on some meds that give him the "munchies." He's trying really hard to eat carrots, celery and fruit when he feels he has to eat. But last night he told me he could just be eating all the time. Poor guy. He usually hangs out about 140 (he's only 5'3") and doesn't ordinarily eat much. This is really unusual for him.

Easter was a non-event at our house. No candy, though there's plenty at work. I've eaten a few jelly beans and some licorace. Sat night we went to a Pie Auction Square Dance, where the price of admission was a pie! I made a chocolate cream and a fresh strawberry pie - ate 1/2 piece of the chocolate (which I made with skim milk!). There were about 75-80 folks there and I lost count of how many pies got eaten. Too many.

The bad news for the weekend is that I wrecked my car and we are now dependent on one vehicle for a few days til I get a rental lined up and the insurance company figures out if it's fixable or totalled. Sigh. No one hurt thankfully.

On Easter, I had three meals rather than my usual two and felt fat for the rest of the day. It was purely psychological, I know that logically, I'm the same small size I was the day before. The goodies at the church coffee did me in. Usually, I'm not tempted by sweets these days, but the breakfast cakes first looked so good, then turned out to taste so good that I went back for seconds.

Easter dinner went ok and I was able to avoid the desserts except for one cookie. When we got home, I did my daily floor exercises and then low impact danced to the soft rock music channel.

Pat ~ I hope your DH is only on that medicine for a short time. I ended up gaining 50 lbs on a med because I couldn't resist the constant hunger pains and cravings. Luckily, the replacement med had just the opposite effect.

Pat, sorry to hear about your car, but glad to hear no one was hurt. I can sure sympathize with the being down to 1 vehicle. My son's Jeep is in the shop for a new transmission and I've been doing without a car.

I stayed on plan today. I did take my DD to braum's to get her LC ice cream as she was begging for it. But, I resisted and didn't eat any ice cream.

I made it 1 mile on the treadmill and was actually jogging. I got a killer headache so stopped. I'm waiting for the tylenol to kick in now.

Hey ladies. Spring sprung even though the weather doesn't agree. I went all winter staying within my goal, but recently hit my RED zone. Therefore, it is back to journaling and calorie watching. I haven't done very well keeping a schedule with my running and my body feels pudgy, not tight.

I was reading other posts earlier and I have to comment that exercise must be part of the maintenance program in order for it to work.
