    We share laughter and tears.
We share what works for us and what doesn't.
We often use a "Topic of the Day" for discussion.

These are not required topics ...just ideas to share. We often find them very helpful. We also share heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations.

We have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, and more. Please feel free to check them all out.

we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

    WELCOME!

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for Amazon on any page in the forum, or by clicking on the button on the main 3FC page at www.3fatchicks.com . A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's like $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!!!
  • Hi Ladies - Well there's already been a glitch in the plans to meet my sister in Nanimo....my parents want to come with her to see me, too!!! But then I won't be able to be down 55-60lbs when they see me! It won't be as obvious 2 months short! Nooooo!! I told my sister if anything see if she can convince my mom to convince my dad he should stay and look after our dog (he's nearly 15 now and they say he's showing his age now ), since the person who NEVER believed in me was my dad, so I don't want him to see me "in progress", but if my mom has to come see me then I guess I will have to deal, lol! My sister is like "OMG - What do I say to them? I've never had to tell my parents to stay home before!" LOL! Considering I'm showing my sister my in-progress weight loss as a surprise AS WELL, it would be showing nearly everyone that was supposed to see me at Christmas, early!! AHH! And I realllllllly don't wanna feel pressured to lose fast these next 2 months...but I want a DRAMATIC change before my parents see me! Well, anyways...I think I'm going to get my hair lowlighted before I go to Nanimo! I gotta save up though...it's $80 here! Well the day is coming....weigh-in that is, lol, and (obviously) I will post my results asap. Hope everyone is doing well.
    Stay OP chickies!!

    Melissa

  • Hmm that is a bummer! I know what you mean about wanting to spring your weight loss on your family, kinda shock them back off their feet a little but just remember (and I hate sounding like the voice of reason but it comes out once in a while) You are doing this for You. At your pace, with your health and happiness in mind.

Your surprise will happen just maybe at a different time Maybe you will go visit them for a vacation or quick get away and they will pick you up at the airport and look past you, not being able to recognize you.....?
Keep your chin up and dont dispair.

I as well as many others look up to you =0) We'll show them.
  • Hey Melissa,

I can understand where you're coming from on that. My parents, both of them, never really have much support for me and I think they don't believe I'll ever lose it. I'd rather they don't see me until it's ALL gone.. but I have an easier way to do that than you do, since they live 6000 km from me.

IF you cannot avoid seeing them.. why don't you just not tell them? They might notice and keep it to themselves? Maybe they won't want to ask. If they do, just play the bluff.. "oh, you think I've lost weight? really? excellent, thanks!". Then you can go back home and keep going at it, and then by Christmas you'll DEFINITELY be able to see much difference, and you can tell them then, tell them you wanted to keep it as a surprise. Maybe I'm commenting without all of the facts of course so what I say here may mean diddly You've done really well though so whatever you do, give yourself points for that no matter what, try not to get too stressed or over-do it

  • Hiya Melissa .. sorry to hear you have to change your plans possibly .. but like has already been said ... just stick to your original goals, they will see an even bigger change after Xmas when they see you next .. or maybe they will notice the change at Xmas anyway

I know what you mean tho ... my mum lives only about 1.5 - 2 hours from me .... but we only see each other once or twice a year ... and we are all going over for Xmas for the first time this year in umm eons! Hopefully I am going to reach my XMas goal before I see her .. it will be a total of about 50 lbs in total if I can from when I first started

Good luck Melissa .. just enjoy the loss you have already achieved .. not mention the fitness that you have now too!!
  • Thanks for the veggie/salad suggestion, Alice...I do have a bottle of lemon juice here (that I bought for a particular recipe and then never made ), so I'll have to give it whirl!

Zelma--I didn't even think about it being an energy drain! Just last night, Jeff and I both fell asleep while watching a movie on the couch after dinner. He woke up after less than 2 hours, while I slept for over 3. When I woke up, I even said to him, "what is wrong with me? Who takes a 3-hour nap just before bedtime and still feels tired?!" Maybe my girly problems are affecting me more than I thought...

I did call my doctor and explained my symptoms, and they said it's not an emergency. They said I could even wait and see if it happens again during my next 2 cycles because something happening 3 cycles in a row is really cause for attention. Umm, I'm annoyed enough as it is--not waiting another 4 months, thanks! They didn't have ANY open appointments this week, and next week is my regularly scheduled TOM, during which they obviously can't do an exam, so I am going in on Sept. 14. Hopefully, things will be better by then, but I'm still going to go even if I'm not having any issues at that time. I only have 1 ovary left, so with my crazy medical history, I want to make sure everything's okay in there!

In better news, I'm down another pound today to 283. I've also already got better plans in tact for the upcoming 3 off-plan days so I don't go as overboard as last time. I decided Friday will be my "free" day (it's a better day for a cheat day since Iwill be at work all day, leaving me less time to really be bad ). Then I bought things like whole-wheat bread and a couple different flavors of hummus to have during the next 2 days, so I'll still be higher in calories, but no need to eat only junk food when I've got perfectly yummy nutritious food sitting here! I've heard someone suggest using hummus as a spread on sandwiches instead of mayo, so I think I may have to try that
  • Good morning ladies!
Another quick drop in- just really out of time latley. Yesterday all in all was a good day- got in my yoga, and stayed OP although I didn't eat everything I was suppossed to. I was so busy yesterday- and school started (online yesterday, on-campus today) and I was up until 11:30p because of it. I'm worried at how tired I will be today- I woke up at 4:20 to get ready for work- I'll have to leave in 15 minutes...but besides that doing well.

Sabrina- down 5 more pounds!! I know you must be thrilled!

Kate- Your pic is great-especially for a before, you look so beautiful, and like you don't have too much to loose- I wish my before pic looked like that!!

Melissa- I'm sorry your plan is a little messed up- the good part is that I'm sure they will see the difference even now, and when you come for christmas they will still see a big difference- I would say this just means you get to shock them double! I hope all goes well!

Jill- I'm a food ignorant (surprisingly, being that I am 200 pounds overweight ) but what is Hummus? For some reason whale comes to my mind, but i know that can't be it...right?

Have a wonderful day ladies! Stay OP!

Oh goodness, no! hehe...it's a dip-like substance made from primarily chickpeas. You can make it yourself at home (if you have the time/patience) with chickpeas, oil, and seasonings and whatnot in a food processor (the label on mine also includes "sesame tahini"...not sure what that is, but I'm positive it's not any part of a whale ). It's great for dipping raw veggies (if you like raw veggies, which the only one I can handle to dip is cucumbers), eating on crackers, spreading on sandwiches, etc.

Oh, I've also seen it spelled a few different ways. Even on the labels all at the same store, I saw "hummus," "hummos," "hummous," sometimes one "m" but sometimes 2...

EDIT: 2 seconds of research (thanks, Google!) has revealed that "sesame tahini" is basically sesame butter--like peanut butter but made from sesame seeds.
  • Hey everyone~

I haven't been able to get online the last two days. We have DSL and we had some outages up here. Well I am getting things back on track. We are going grocery shopping and buying healthier stuff. In other words not buying soda and junk food! lol I have been getting some walking in lately. I do about a quarter mile now and I am hoping to build up to half a mile. I feel like I am getting nowhere with the working out...but I know I will be able to do more as I get used to it and build the strengh.

Also thank you all for the warm welcomes and welcome backs. But I just wanted to say thanks to all of you and your adivce! I appreciate it!

I had one more question. I noticed some of you were using tape measures. Should I be taking my measurements? Have you ever noticed if you have not lost any actual weight...but lost inches? I guess I need to go buy one!

Well congrats on everyones NSV. You all are such an inspiration!

    Have a good day!

    Michelle
  • Michelle -- I HIGHLY recommend taking measurements every month or so! Chest, waist, hips... spots on arms and legs, etc. Just make sure you know how to re-measure the same spot each time!
Sometimes you can see a change in measurements but none on the scale!

No time for personals today, but sounds like some people are doing great on (and off) the scale!

I did want to note that I posted a new exercise thread for September and everyone is welcome! For those of you who are new, we set goals of minutes to exercise each month and then post our actual exercise to the board. It's GREAT for accountability -- I for one STILL find it hard to be motivated to do exercise, but setting goals really helps me stay on track.

But then we go one step further and keep a running total of the group's exercise. It is fun to watch the numbers go up and up! This month we are on track to do 25,000 minutes of exercise!!!!! And we have done well over 100,000 for the year!

And don't be afraid to start small, with a few hundred minutes and build from there!

    Please join us!
  • good morning everyone. hope you see some great losses! i am happy to report i did not see as big a gain as i feared after my bad bad week.. only 2 pounds..nothing a little water and exercise will take care of!
  • Just jumping in quickly this morning before work... but Michelle wanted to say YES I also highly recommend you measure. I had lost at least 25 pounds or so before I started and regret it.

Recently I have not been losing weight (and really haven't measured lately either) but I know I am losing inches because I am wearing clothes I could not wear just a couple weeks ago. That is keeping me going when the scale doesn't show any improvement.

Especially if you are exercising... your body is changing.

I am going to have to change my exercise routine and mix in other things as our outdoor pool closes soon... but already have some new ideas and also plan to get into some deep water aerobics also at the public pool... just can't go as often.

Keep it up, everybody! Yay on all the exercise!!!
  • YAY The FFM finally came!!!! She has been avoiding me for two weeks. Down one pound this morning and under a "10" mark. LOL the 230s don't sound nearly as bad as the 240s.... One more and I get to redecorate my ticker <G>
  • Wyllenn and Misti~Thanks for the replies. I will for sure go get that measuring tape. I do notice changes in my face/stomach before the scale actually shows a loss. So it will nice to see any inches lost.

Misti~also just wanted to say congrats on your success. You are doing awesome!

And on that note all of you seem to be doing great. Such inspiration!

    Michelle
  • Michelle - MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE!! Yes, I have lost inches without losing weight, it's great to keep track. And it's cheap!
