What have you found that sells well on eBay that you can make some money on? Where do you get those items? I have been selling on eBay for a while now, but I want to make more money!! Any info appreciated! Thanks!

I used to be a "hot" eBay seller but I kind of quit for the most part when their fees skyrocketed and they put in so many stores as I felt the profit margin just wasn't worth the hard work any longer... plus I have a small apt and got tired of all the junk around LOL.

But great places to get stuff are yard sales AND clothing stores when they have really cheap clearance sales; especially nice plus size stuff as that is hard for some people to find.

I've had good luck selling AND BUYING my kids clothes on eBay. My daughter gets slightly freaked out wearing used clothing, but when I get her Ambercrombie and Fitch things...sometimes new with the tags...for a tiny fraction of the store cost, she doesn't mind so much.

BUT, I sold all of my size 10 clothes to a woman in australia for about $80...she paid an additional $80 or so for shipping, but that was her choice. (I sold the size tens because I was a size 18 at the time and I was willing Murphy's Law to kick in and that someday I'd need them again if I sold them. I'm in a 14 now, so maybe...) . So, its been my experience that kids clothing and nice woman's clothing sells well. Especially little kid stuff...they grow out of it so fast that it's hardly worn and who the heck wants to pay full price for clothes your kids will wear for six month and then need to be replaced? I think Maternity clothes would sell well, too, for the same reason. I have two giant bags I have to sell, but I'm still hoping my hubby will 'shoot one past the goalie' and that I'll need them again. (I want another...he's happy with the brood we've got) Maybe I SHOULD sell them with the whole Murphy's Law thing.

Anyhow...clothing sells WELL on eBay, in my experience...but you should sell it in a big, huge lot and have excellent pictures taken with a nice background. I get skeeved out when I look at pictures of clothes taken on someone's unmaid bed...bleh! And I don't buy them unless it looks like the people took the time to take nice pictures...not on the floor, but probably hung on a hanger over a closet door or something.

I take really good care of all of our things-and I find that a lot of the children's things that are name brand sell very, very well. I only put up the items that:

~Do not have stains, holes, or excessive wash wear
~The size/name brand tags are not removed (pet peeve of mine)
~I always put them in lots by size so they sell better (like a grouping of boys Old Navy clothes in size 4T)

Maternity items and baby items also sell really, really well. All of mine are brand name (Motherhood, Motherwear, etc.) so I put them up by size/season (summer maternity clothes in a lot, winter ones in a lot, etc.) and they sell like hotcakes.

Other items that sell are collectibles and antiques-vintage items that are in great condition that people sell-if you have any collectible holiday ornaments, toys from the 70s or 80s...also, items that someone may already have, but need a replacement for. Say someone has a set of Corelle dishes in a certain pattern, and they break one. They will search on Ebay for a replacement.

Do you have any leftover perfume or bath and body products that are unused and name brand, that you have gotten for gifts? A lot of people buy those as well...

I've been looking at clothing. I wonder if you could buy lots and sell the items seperately or in smaller lots.

I shop clearance sales at local stores. Target has excellent clearance prices. Then I resell on eBay for a profit. Sometimes you can get toys super cheap and make good profit off of them. I also watch Goodwill and second hand stores. If its a rare find. For instance, toys from the 80's seem to do well. I usually search items on eBay just to see how they would sell or are selling.

I sell used and new items as well depending on what I find to sell. Misti's right when she says the fees are high- they just don't seem to make me happy.

I have been trying to find stuff to sell at e-bay, but after fees, my time ect... I don't think I am making enought to make it worth it. I did find out that my husband's old fish finder off of his boat sold for $101 surprised the heck out of me since it was 20 years old but it cost 800 originally. Bought a Cobra CB radio for $5, sold it for $25. I guess for me it has been hit or miss. I do like to go garage selling and if I find something I will list it, but I am not doing it anymore with the aim of making money. Good luck though. A lady I work with quit her job to ebay full time and she makes enough money doing that. She just goes to garage sales, and clearance sells.

Yes I agree with that! Selling stuff in lots is much more effective, and pictures are important as well as measurements. And if there is any damage at all -- a spot or whatever -- take a close-up of it and mention it in the ad. People like to get a lot of stuff in one shot and cuts down on postage for them.

But I also agree with mom2cole... the fees got so excessive and it was so much work for what I was making that it was not worth it. Also so many people now are snipers that you can't get the bid wars going much like you used to be able to, so don't get as good a price.

With clothing that I BID on-here is what is important to ME as a buyer:

~clean, no stains or excessive wear
~brand name is important if I am going to buy second hand clothing
~brand name tag/size tag still intact in the garment
~nice photos that show the clothing
~if clothing is in a "lot", I like the clothing to be the same size, and same season. It does me no good to buy a lot of size 14 clothing with a couple 16's and 18's thrown in, if I wear a size 14.

Also, when I bid on children's clothing-I will pay more for name brand clothing if it has the matching accessories with it. You know how Gap, Gymboree, and other kids places always have matching hair accessories, or socks, and such-if the outfit or top on Ebay has matching things with it-I am likely to bid much, much higher.

I've had a really hard time making any money on ebay in the summer. Maybe I'm choosing the wrong items, or people are just more willing to buy in the winter due to being shut in or because of the lack of garage sales that time of the year.

I've actually had better luck at nice consignment places. They do usually take half of the profits, but they usually sell higher than at your own garage sale, and often higher than ebay brings.

It is someone who uses a robot to place bids in the last few seconds of an auction. You can program them ahead of time to bid for you and set the maximum amount you want to pay. That way it does not raise the bidding during the time the item is posted but rather will go in automatically and "up" the bid by the minimum amount, up to what you tell it to do. These are websites that you can sign up on. I understand there are some free ones though I am not sure how good they are; but some which you have to pay for are very inexpensive. They are great for the buyer, not so great for the sellers.

Misti / Dommy'sMommy, a sniper could also be someone old-school like me, a person who "watches" an item and at the last minute sits at the computer for those final 60 seconds of the listing and waits to see if any other bidders will start something. Then, depending on the refresh rate of the computer I'm on, I'll put in my bid, usually within the last 3-5 seconds so the robot snipers can't outbid me. Doesn't always work, but it sure gives me a helluva adrenaline rush when it does. (I have no life, I know )
