BFL (or weight lifting diets) and raisins??

  • Where do most weight lifter diets (BFL is specific) stand with raisins? Are they a clean food or no good?
    Thanks,
    Tracy
  • personally I would say clean - as long as they don't have hydrogenated vegetable oil as a glazing agent
  • They are sugar bombs, as are most dried fruit. A serving is something like 12 raisins. Is that worth it? You really are better off eating the "wet" version of the fruit because it is so much more filling.

  • Just an interesting factoid - our pediatric dentist told us that oral health wise, they are equivalent to feeding your kids fruit roll-ups and fruit snacks - major no no's. Nothing but gooey sticky sugar that loves to adhere to crevices on the teeth. DH likes them in his oatmeal, but I'm trying to convert him too. We've pretty much pulled them from our house.
  • I personally love raisins, and esp in my oatmeal! But I do measure them, and let them plump up nicely. And I brush my teeth after breakfast.
  • I love raisins too and add about a tablespoon to my oatmeal also...not every day though...
