Okay to work out with a cold?

  • This weekend, I came down with a nasty cold. Fever broke on Saturday. I'm back at work. While I've got the cough and stuffiness, I don't feel incredibly tired or run down. My weekend workout schedule didn't continue after Friday evening's session.

I am eager to go back to exercise (did I really just type that?)

Also feel that a sauna would be of benefit. Or maybe, that's one of the worse things I could do with this congestion?

Two things: 1) I don't want to aggrevate this any further, doing more damage to my illin' system; 2) I don't want to be a "germ carrier" to the gym.

    Your experiences and suggestions welcome,

    Jean
  • I think you should give it a try and see how you feel. With the congestion you may find you get a headache or something and need to stop. I think usually they say above the neck you are ok to work out, but if you have something going on in the chest or a cough that could be aggravated by cardio, fever, no way. I don't think you're contagious once your fever has passed. You probably did more germspreading on Friday before you knew what was happening!!! lol
  • I agree. I think you will be fine as long as you dont have symptoms such as a cough or fever that will be aggravated by cardio. Go work out but stop if you begin to feel bad and good for you for wanting to keep up with the good habits.
  • Thanks Ladies!
It doesn't take long for me to feel better when hanging around these boards!

I appreciate your input and have decided to give it a try.

    Thanks again!
