What is the challenge, exactly?

I'm presently trying to build up my stamina for a 7-mile race in May. I only plan to walk the race, not run, but it's still a challenge because I'm the heaviest I've ever been in my life, and very out of shape. I really do hope to see some positive changes by the end of this month.
