Need a little kick in the pants!

  • Hi everyone...I'm sort of a long time reader, first time caller here My story : I just turned 25, and I'm fed up with fighting the same 40 lbs. I was always overweight, but I managed to lose about 45 lbs right around my 16th birthday. I kept it off, completely for 3 years until I began using Depo Provera. At that point, I can track the weight gains of 3-5 lbs every time I went in for my shot. I finally quit that, and switched to the pill, and then Nuvaring, and now I'm going a non-hormonal route. So we'll see where that takes me. I was on Wellbutrin to try to manage my eating. I lost weight, went off, and gained it back and more...

I've tried Weight Watchers, but I'm not a big fan of meetings. I've been scrupulous with Atkins and lost 1 lb during induction. I've done South Beach, but I need more direction in terms of portion control. I've decided to do my own little Weight Watchers program, counting points and all, but I could just use a little support. Someone to remind me that I'll feel less tired if I hit the gym after work, not more. And that just because I have a muffin for breakfast, it doesn't mean that my calories are blown for the day and I should eat whatever I want. I'd like to lose about 50 lbs ultimately, but I'm aiming for 20 right now. Thanks for listening!
  • We're all in this together!
Hi Honeybean! I think this is the place to be for support. I did W.W. also, and just didn't have time to journal, count points, and look up points in that book. I used to fall to sleep at night journaling and trying to find something in those books. I lost some weight at first, but then put weight on when I had to take a prescription - Evista - anyone else out there taking this? Anyway, i gained 15 pounds within a year!!! - and W.W. just didn't work for me any longer. So, now I'm trying the South Beach diet - I'm on day 5, and it has not been hard so far. I only hope it works for me like it has for others. As far as exercise, I'm sure I should do more; but I do 2 step aerobics classes per week, on day of Pilates, and one day of weight circuit - top to bottom. I used to run, but stopped in January as after about 4 years was just burned out with it. Sounds like you have a plan, and that's important. Let's all stick together!

  • Hi there!!

I am relatively new as well. I think that you definitely did the right thing getting off of those hormones. it sounds like they were just not right for you. I, like you, managed a pretty substantial weight loss (and kept most of it off for about 3 years). I gained it all back in only a few months after a very serious back injury kept me from the gym and made me horribly depressed (food became my drug of choice to make me feel better!)

Anyway, now I am done feeling sorry for myself and am looking to lose all of that weight that I gained back. I feel like I have tried every diet, but have a hard time sticking to them all. (I HATE cooking!!) I have recently been turned onto the FitDay website to track my daily eating habits. Maybe this might work for you...

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with your weight loss - feel free to PM me if you want to chat!!
