Please Help

  • I also posted this in the SBD questions area but I thought it might get viewed more here.

I’m trying to read through all of the posts, so I apologize if someone has already asked these questions.

One, are the Morning Star Farms “Garden Veggie” or the “Spicy Black Bean” burgers allowed? I questioned whether or not the Spicy Black Bean burgers were since they have a few corn kernels mixed in. I’ve been enjoying the Garden Veggie ones for breakfast but have held off on the other ones until phase 2.

Secondly, I’ve been consuming the no sugar added No Pudge Fudgy Bars; however, I see there has been some debate on whether no sugar added and sugar free are the same thing. I know the No Pudge bars have 3 grams of sugar and 17 grams of sugar alcohol. If this is unacceptable, can you guys some suggest some different brands of fudgesicles to look for.

Thirdly, do the new Jello brand Sugar Free pudding cups (individual size ones) fit into the phase 2 category? I know that they are not fat free but completely sugar free. I didn’t know if this was comparable to the box mix that is in phase 2

Lastly, do Polydextrose and Maltridextrose fall into the no, no category? I’ve seen these two ingredients listed on some things and figured it fell under the Dextrose category. I just wanted to verify.

I appreciate your help in answering all of these questions. I apologize for there being so many. I also wanted to say what a great forum this is. Everyone seems polite, knowledgeable and very helpful.

    Thanks!
  • PrettyBunny: If I were you, I would avoid the spicy black bean burger....corn is a "no-no".
I would also trade in the no pudge bars for SugarFree fudgesicles. I used buy generic/store brand & they are good. Check out the recipe forum....I am sure you will find great foods there & won't even miss the others!
The jello does fit into phase 2, just remember the 75 calories limit.
  • Veggie burgers are fine but you are right to avoid the ones with corn.

The sugar alcohols in fudge bars can give you the runs. I can't recommend any brand because I never buy them. Perhaps the other chicks will chime in.

The Sugar Free pudding cups are comparable to the boxed mix, I think. Better compare the ingredients.

Polydextrose and Maltidextrose are found in some "sugar-free processed foods. The can cause you to stop losing weight so should be avoided. The "ose" and "ol" family members are sneaky!

My mantra as far as processed foods are concerned is "If it ain't food, don't eat it." This diet stresses eating food that is processed as little as possible.
  • You've been give some great advice. As for the pudding cups, what type of milk are they made with? If they are made with 1% or skim milk then you would be fine. I would think 2% might be okay for occasional use. It is really easy to just mix it up yourself from the package and put it into individual containers. I think that would be cheaper too.

I think I used the Fudgsicle brand No Sugar Added Fudgesicle Pops. They didn't have too many calories and tasted great.
  • Thank you all for posting! I've been driving myself crazy with some of these questions. You've all been a big help.

    Thanks!
