Hi everyone -
I'm new here. I was wondering if anyone has ever had a salamander in their toilet? I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night (all this water I've been drinking) and their was a salamander in my toilet hangin' out near the rim. Scared the pee out of me. My husband thought it was pretty funny. So I'd love to know if anyone else has experienced this. I guess they crawled up the pipes. Now I have to check everytime I go. I'm afraid one of those little slimey things will jump on me. I think I would poop if that happened and never be able to use my toilet again. lol

ROFL--Oh my goodness!!! I've never had a salamander in my bathroom, but we've been getting these little spiders and sometimes even centipedes in there! I even had a scorpion in my bathtub one time (we live in the woods)!! Luckily the salamander can't hurt you--think of it as a long frog...LOL. However, one of those centipedes came into my bedroom one night and stung my leg--talk about freaking out! I had a tough time sleeping for a few weeks after that episode!! And when I lived at home with my parents (who also live in the woods) I woke up to a scorpion on the other pillow staring me in the face, as well as a big fat tick and a wolf spider (not all on the same day of course).

I wonder how that salamander got in there--they're actually pretty hard to find when you go looking for them (we have a creek and a pond and I've never been able to find one). Anyway, the next time you go to sit on the pot just remember it could be worse--there could be a centipede, spider, or scorpion waiting for you instead!! And, you may want to go ahead and take your undies and pants off before attempting to sit so that if there is another salamander there you won't soil your clothes...HAHAHAHA!!!

Okay, that is why I will NEVER live south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

I have red house spiders. They are the meanest looking spider I have ever seen. Their front set of legs are extra long and they have an extra set of "hands" in front and a pair of fangs 3mm long. That'll wake you up real fast at 5:30am. The other morning one of those things was on the ledge of the bath with its front set of legs and hands rearing up with its fangs bared.

The rule in my house is that spiders are allowed to live, provided I don't have to look at them. This guy died and I didn't feel guilty about it.

If I came across one of those red house spiders, I don't know what I'd do! The closest thing we have are wolf spiders, which get much bigger than I think is necessary. Ick! I know that they aren't really interested in humans, but I really don't like them in my home.

Probably the biggest problem we have here is wood ticks. Esp. w/ limes disease. They can be so tiny...

I've never had anything floating around my toilet, but I"ve had spiders come out of the faucet in the bath....always fun.

You got that right--some of those things are HUGE!! And have you ever seen the female ones when she has her babies all riding on her back? Talk about CREEPY!

And that red house spide--HOLY COW! Do they bite?? I freaking HATE spiders--and now I hate centipedes equally as much (that HURT for weeks and even had a fever in it)!! Bugs in general just totally freak me out--now I'm sitting here itching all over...LOL!

Yes they bite, one web site I looked at said thier bite was "moderate" in pain level. Moderate, my fanny. Anything with fangs like that would hurt like .

Never seen a wolf spider in person, hope to god I never do. When trying to find info on my spider I came across all types of mean looking buggers. I will tell you that the day I come face to face with a spider as big as a dinner plate. . . I don't normally believe in bombing my house with toxic chemicals, but man I would tent the sucker and bomb the heck out of it. Then bomb it again.

My sister lived in Louisiana for 10 years and I refused to come down there to see her. Paid to have her fly home because I can't do red ants, ticks, brown recluse, et al. She's in North Carolina now, still too buggy. Why she couldn't stay in Mass. I will never know. . .

Yeah, creepy crawlies, woogies, skin crawling. . . Yeah, I haven't been able to sleep well since. My bedroom is right next to the bathroom.

I had to google salamander to see what one looks like! Growing up in Los Angeles, the worst bugs we ever got were some Black Widow spiders, daddy long-legs, and cockroaches! Now that I've moved to Rhode Island, I'm constantly amazed by things like how big the ants are, or the fact that I have to look out for tics! I can't imagine what it must be like in buggier places like the South. At least that's one reason I appreciate a little bit of the concrete jungle!

that is frickin nuts! It makes me think of that scene in Arachnaphobia where the big ole spider was crawlin around the rim of the toilet, I use to have to check every time to make sure their was no spiders for a few months the first time I saw that movie... Now I have to check for salamanders too! EWWWWW! What state do you live in?

Oh God, I'd have a heart attack. Since I moved to FL, we get all kinds of weird stuff in the house. We had a wolf spider in the shower once, my husband just couldn't kill it, it wouldn't die, the thing was over 4" long. I can imagine how the salamander went through the pipes, my friend at work had a rat in her toilet one night. All this talk is actually taking my appetite away, a good thing!!

I'm glad to say I've never had anything crawl out of my toliet, yicky!

The same thing happened to me when I was little, except it was with the movie Gremlins...LOL!!!

Haha, I have a stupider reason I had to compulsively check something . . . When I was really little (like 5 years old) my sister (who is 3 years older than me) told me that a gigantic spider was living under my bed! For years I would leap from a few feet away to get onto my bed so that the spider wouldn't get me!

One time I had just lain down in bed and I was about to fall asleep, and I turned my head to the side and there was a HUGE spider on the pillow next to me! I have been paranoid about them in my bed ever since!

I thought a salamander was bad, but a rat! Oh that's really bad. The little booger brought a friend along yesterday morning. Yes, it was there again, but now they are growing in numbers. The comment made earlier about them being like frogs did make me feel so much better. I don't mind frogs. I actually think they're pretty neat. But the rat thing that's scary. I will definitly have to make sure the lid is shut at all times. My mother (who used an outhouse until she was 14) was actually freaked out too. She was over when the second batch were hangin' out under the rim. By the way they are hard to flush. One of them didn't even go down this last time.

HAHAHA--you flush them and they STILL come back??!! Determined little things aren't they!! Maybe he brought a friend because now he thinks it's some kind of theme park ("hey George, have you heard about this new place? If you go there and hang out for a few hours, eventually this big thing will come in and shriek at you then you hear this big WHOOSH and go round and round and down this big water slide--it's awesome! )

They definitely are like frogs--both are amphibians. To my knowledge they can't hurt you...when I was a kid I had friends that liked playing with them just like frogs.

Do you have a creek or anything near your house? Maybe next time you can just put them in a cup or something and take them outside.

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww......As a mom to boys I'm trying to brace myself for the creepy crawlies but in my toilet...no thanks. Gross...that is a huge fear....things in the toilet. I'm so sorry. I hope they find a new home and fast.
