  • Hey ladies!

I need some ideas/recipes for foods to make that will satisfy my urge to open the fridge and grab something to snack on!

What good salads, veggies, fruit thingies, or otherwise good for you snack to you knosh on?

    Let's hear it!
  • 1. Cheese
    2. Hard boiled eggs
    3. Lean lunch meats
    4. Low Fat yorgurt
    5. Sugar free Jello
    6. No Sugar Added Fudge pops
  • A half serving of cereal with skim milk, or a slice of wheat bread with 2 teaspoons of reduced fat peanut butter and a half teaspoon of honey and I wash it down with 1/2 a cup of skim milk - it is the next best thing to a peanut butter cookie!
  • yogurts
    oranges
    apples
    grapefruits
    string cheese
    a bagel
and this week's lifesaver: cinnamon granola bars

I just made a small salad for dinner:

    1 small avocado, chunked
1/2 pink grapefruit, peeled & sectioned & chunked

Mix & sprinkle with cracked pepper. YUMMMMMM
  • yeah, I need to get some string cheese.

so far I've been making veggie salads with a whole mix of different veggies and some low fat dressing and a little parm. it's good finger food when i need to munch!

One thing i found i liked is an apple cut off the core and sliced to look like apple sticks with some lemon juice on them.

what about pretzels? too many carbs for everyone?
  • by the way, how do you all feel about things like granola bars (is one brand better than another?), and rice cakes?
  • Nature Valley cinnamon granola bars rock my socks.

I can do carbs, pretzels are a go-to food from the vending machine if I forget to pack anything.

Ooh, trail mix is good, too. Raisins, peanuts & sunflower kernels.
  • Rice crackers from Trader Joe's
    Pickles
    Lowfat yogurt
    popsicles
    Fudgesicles
small serving of nuts, especially pistachios or almonds
    1/2 Mini bagel
  • OOOOh, I just got the Nature Valley peanut butter granola bars, and I love them! I always used to get the chewy ones, but these rule!

Aren't they awesome??? Nice & crunchy. Not too happy with the sugars/fiber ratio, but I will just have to be patient enough for Kashi to make their own granola bars.

Kashi instant oatmeal packets are awesome for a quick snack at work, so are the little tins of fruit packed in it's own juice or unsweetened applesauce.
  • i love
    hard boiled egg whites
sugar free jello with fruit and some fat free cool whip
    clementines
bananas ( my midmorning snack everyday)

chips and salsa. i make my own salsa that i put on everything. i make it so spicy that if i'm eating it with chips i can only eat a little anyway. i get those fat free tostitos. this is a special treat because cornchips on large quantities don't digest well with me.

nice, expensive chocolate. green and blacks organic chocolate comes in big bars with 30 pieces on chocolate. 20 cal a piece. i get the dark or the maya gold and treat myself to a piece every now and then. the sugar contenet is lower than that of heavily processed chocolates so i don't have sugar cravings.

mashed rutabagas. i keep a container in the fridge at all times. when i get a craving for some kind of salty comfort food i get them out. 1/2 cup has 50 cal and half of you daily recomended intake of potasium.

    v8
    grapefruit
  • apples
    blueberries (w/lite whipped topping)
LUNA bar - eat this more as a half meal at work
cup of cereal (no milk, just as finger food)
  • Kashi Granola bars

Kashi is making their own granola bars now. yeah! They are yummy too. I don't see them on their website though. I picked up the box at my local health food chain so maybe you can find them near you. They had 3 different flavors and the one I have has almonds and I think dried cranberries plus the grains. Only 110 calories...don't remember the other info. They are different than the Go-Lean Bars. I'll try to remember to come back when I'm home and post more details from the packaging.

please do. i am interested in these as well. i have never seen anything like them in my local health food store. i want to make a request.
  • i like to have graham crackers and put fat free coolwhip on them and freeze them it is like an ice cream sandwich. It really help me with the ice cream cravings. I also enjoy the 100 calorie packs of baked oreos with a 1/2 cup of skim milk.
