Ingredients to Avoid

  • I just need some input, and some of your knowledge.

I've gotten pretty good with SBD, where I know what I can or can't have by looking at the ingredients and nutritional info.

Thus bringing me to my question.. what are some No-No ingredients? Things that as soon as you see them listed as an ingredient, make you put the product back.

I know the obvious ones, sugar , high fructose corn syrup , partially hydrogenated oils , etc. But are there any others that I (or anyone else) may not be familiar with? Just so I can get better at the shopping thing, and totally master this lifestyle.

Thanks in advance for any help
  • How about:

Corn syrup solids (in my frozen chicken breasts of all places!)
    Palm oil - BIG no-no
Coconut oil (actually all tropical oils are bad)
Potato starch - can't remember what this was in.

That's all I can think of at the moment - I am sure there are a ton more.

Have you heard that the Canadian gov't is trying to ban trans-fats?

    http://www.bantransfats.com/

    I say go for it!!
  • IMHO, if you don't know what it is, don't eat it! We are supposed to avoid processed foods. Yeah Canada on the trans-fat ban!
  • I avoid processed foods, but I want to learn more so I can understand the diet better.

I wish the US would ban trans fats too, and close Kentucky Fried Chicken, so I'm not tempted
  • Whoa, Bups! Read that article on the transfats and was just appalled! I'm going through my entire kitchen today and ditching everything I can!
