I am new and overwhelmed also!

  • Hello everyone, My name is JoAnne and I am not sure how I got here! lol This looks like a really good forum with lots of great advice so I think I will hang out. I will be 49 in a couple of weeks and have had a bout with breast cancer recently. I was overweight to begin with but the hormonal treatment I currently have to take for 5 years has really made me gain weight. So, what I have been doing for the past 3 days is just eat good foods and not too much. No junk food! I am not sure how many calories I am taking in but hopefully it is around 1200. This morning I had oatmeal for breakfast (no butter) and a small can of v-8. Lunch was a whole can of tuna with ff mayo and a dab of relish on 2 slices of sprout bread. Snack was 5 almonds and an apple. Dinner was ham slices (2) with a very small sweet potato, 1 pat marg. and green beans. I need to lose 40-50 pounds and I have a treadmill. Was walking 3 miles a day until my ankles and feet started swelling and hurting. Hubby would kill me if I bought an elliptical or something else since the treadmill isn't paid for yet...lol So, currently I am not doing any exercise. I need to talk to my dr. about this first. I would like to get in to weightlifting. Ok, enough about that, I have 2 children ages 16 and 21. 6 cats, 1 crazy lab and 9 fish tanks. I raise angelfish as a hobby and I do sell some to the petstore. I need to stay as excited as I am right now about losing weight and I know I can do this. Thanks for reading this......
  • HI! Joanne and welcome well you came to the right place so hopefully you will get lots of motivation from the ladies here first you need to check with your doctor about what kind of exercise you can do if your surgery is recent I use to like to walk but not into it right now like you have plenty of equiptment to work with (hubbys) just cant get motivated and when I do stick with it!!!!!!!!sounds like you have plenty of animals to keep you busy have all of them in threes minus the fish if you ever get bored go to the support groups and join us on the senior buddies as we are all different ages as I am sure they can be a help to you as you would to us so good luck Rita:smile:
  • Hi JOanne -
My name is Cheryl and I just turned 46..and talk about overwhelmed! I'm not even sure if you're going to see this message or if everyone is!

I'm not sure how I got here either!

I am about 5' 3" and I weight about 158 pounds...which is way too much. I am starting back on weight watchers (I don't go to the meetings I just do it myself) and I thought a forum like this might be useful for encouragement. I want to lose 30 lbs even though those goofy charts say I should weigh 110 !!! - I would be sick at that weight - 125-130 is fine with me and that's my goal.

So ...hopefully I will find my way around in here....hope you do too. PS looks like we both like coffee !!!
  • How did we get here all at the same time? It must be a hex someone put on us when we were little. Hi, my name is Carol and I just turned 50 I have had a hysto and been on hormones for about 14 years now. Last year I was down to 150 with Adkins and was having a ball, went on a cruise with my daughter and after three out days of seven it was canceled because the air conditioner broke. Needless to say this was a disappointment for me because I was stuck with a bill and sent home.
I have been noticing that I would put anything in my mouth that didn't move.
Hope to meet people with some of the same issues that I have. I love to cook but I work different hours every week and can't plan dinner unless I use the crockpot.
Thanks for letting me vent, Carol
