Jicama on Phase 1?

  • Hi, everyone who's checking on Saturday--I'm a grad student, so (like others who are "lucky" enough to plan their own working hours) I'm at my desk on Saturdays too.

I was basically wondering if jicama is okay on Phase 1. I have the SBD book and it is neither recommended nor forbidden. I was thinking it would be a great thing to use in place of celery with Laughing Cow, or with a tsp. of nut butter instead of an almond snack. But it tastes so sweet that I'm suspicious that it's one of those sugary veggies like carrots or parsnips that one should avoid.

I'm not new to 3FC but new to the SBD, by the way. Looking forward to joining this forum! I'm 29yo, grad student (hoping to graduate in June '05), married 2 years, with a somewhat checkered eating history (overweight, successful weight loss, borderline eating disorder, recovery, regain of weight), now looking to stop "dieting" and start a long-term healthy way of living.

    TIA and happy (rainy) Saturday!
  • Welcoem to The Beach.

Please check out the Phase I food list in the FAQ section. Jicama has been added per The Daily Dish. By the way, carrots are now OK on Phase II - the book is outdated.

Oh, I meant to say that the SBD, when I get to the maintenance phase, is the "healthy WOL" that I mean!!

  • Thanks!!
Oh, thanks, Ruth!! Sorry--I searched on "jicama" before posting my question but didn't get that list. Will go and find that and peruse it!!

Cheers!! (Imagine me raising a jicama stick in a toast to you!)
  • It's capitalized so the search function may have missed it.
Toasting you back with jicama and hummus!
