OT--- birthcontrol??

  • I know this has nothing to do with Core, lol. But it is affecting my life right now. I currently am using Mirena the IUD, I've had it over a year now. But come thursday I will be having it removed due to problems with it. So now I am up in the air about what to use.
What do you use and what would your recommend? Any and all advice is appreciated! TIA
  • I am on a very low estrogen BC pill. I am down in the family room, so I don't have it here to see the name of the brand. It is long and in a purple holder.

I have had a lot of problems.....I had tumors in my pituatry gland and that lead to fertility problems....I am blessed to have my son TJ> But all the hormone trouble has made me have a weight problem....tough to lose!

so the last thing I wanted was something to make me fatter...that is why the put me on a low estrogen formula...no as harsh...

I hope I am helpful? you probably did not need to hear the med history, but I thought I would throw it out there, because it has been a big struggle for me.
  • I probably won't be much help but I used LoOvral (Sp) for many years then when DH and I decided to try I went of (back in 1986 or 1987) I haven't been back on since. I know several who have gotten the 'shot' (Depro I think it is called) and absolutely love it but my friend just started using th 'patch' and loves it.
  • I use nothing.................does that help..........LOL! We try to time it and so far we have done well. If I do get PG, I would be happy, but would like to wait until the new year! After 3 kids though, DH will will getting snipped!
  • I use the Ortho-Evra patch. For a forgetful, working Mom it is a blessing.
  • I've used demulen for quite a while and really like it, but have used some of the other birth control methods. The depo provera shot worked great, but I gained five lbs right away and did not lose weight while on it. It also messed up my cycles once I was off of it. It took me a year to get my cycles back to normal. I also used the patch for about 6 months and I was edgy the whole time. I've heard a lot of women have this side effect. I used the nuva ring and it works great, but I could feel it the whole time. I think that was just me, though. Apparantly, this is a really popular form of birth control and has few side effects.
  • Thanks everyone for your input! Tomorrow is my appointment and I am so nervous!! (mostly about getting this IUD taken out, I hope it isn't painful!) but I have been searching like crazy for new forms of BC and all of your posts really helped! Thanks!
