Hoping to find lots of Friends!

  • Hi, I just joined today in hopes of many things.

My name is CD, I turned 19 in July and I've recently begun to hopefully become as serious as possible about weight loss. I have .. a lot of weight to lose (200+) and I know my main problem with losing weight is lack of motivation and determination. I just seem to stop caring - so I'm here in hopes of gaining many new friends to help remind me that I must do this (for my health, happiness, and future!) and that I'm not alone.

I don't know what else to say really, I'm pretty young but I think I can bring a lot to these forums and I hope I learn a lot as well.

Oh! I'm not really on a "diet", nor am I watching the scale like a hawk.. My main focus is to change my lifestyle as a whole - what I eat and how much I exercise , how good I feel. I'm using fitday mainly to keep track of what I eat (not the calories really), but otherwise I'm just doing whatever I can! I like a lot of vegitarian meals so basically thats the only "diet" I have.

Anything else, let me know! Hope to get to know you all very soon.

I try to write daily at http://www.livejournal.com/users/cdtobehealthy about my habits, feelings, and my actual 'background' story is there, feel free to visit or add me as a friend!

    xoxo

  • I just read your journal. I can identify with you. I'm 45 now and have spent many years worrying about weight. My father would say the same things to me which are very hurtful to one's self image.

You are so young and you have so much ahead of you. It is a good time to begin to unravel your story and seek out as much help as you can such as the counseling. Also are there any groups at your college of young people who want to lose weight. Have you talked to your doctor about your desire, he/she may know of a good program with lots of support. Also looking online can help. In two years, you'll still be so young - 21 - with a lifetime of wonderful events. I know you can do it!

I think its great that you love to dance. You should go out and dance your heart out - drink seltzer or water with a twist (lemon/lime). Find a club that you are comfortable at. Dancing is great exercise! If you can afford it, you might even want to take a semester off to focus on weight loss - perhaps you could get a healthy job for that semester where you are in the company of others that care about health/fitness.

    Best of luck.
  • Thanks for the wonderful advice Really touched me deeply.. I appreciate all of it. I wish I could take a semester off but I've done really poorly in school for a while plus i think having classes help to do a lot more walking - its sortve forced motivation
