just another question

  • I'm being "tested" for PCOS by my Ob/Gyn soon. I've read that PCOS causes lack of sex drive, but I'm wondering about loss of sensation as well. Has anyone else w/PCOS experienced this? I have a total loss of overall sensation in my vaginal area. Sex drive is long gone, but I've lost the ability to orgasm as well. My other doctor has no answer for me, and I've posted on various sex related msg. boards, all to no avail. I'm only 30 years old for pete's sake, I don't want to spend the rest of my life sexless. Any advice, suggestions or stories of your own are thanked in advance.

    Hi Blackbird!!

I have heard of PCOS causing a lack of sex drive and creating havoc on your sensation and sexual "parts" so to speak. It's because of the hormones that are getting all mixed up from the disease...you will either make too much of one and not enough of the others, or vice versa. My problem was (and still is but not as bad) was not lack of, but an increased sex drive. This was due to the extra testostrone I was producing. Then when I hit 30, my prime kicked in and it was look out hubby! If your hormones go the opposite, then there goes the sex drive. If they take a really BIG punch in the hormone department, then it starts to affect your ability to enjoy sex to orgasm, if you can get excited at all. My advice would be to find an endocrinologist who specializes in PCOS and ask for the hormonal blood tests which measures the levels of the different hormones in your bloodstream. (Estrogen, Progestrone, & Testostrone). This gives the doctor an idea of where you are at and can help with the treatment process. My Endocrinologist medicated me to "slow down" my drive but what she gave me almost killed it!! Come to find out I was taking it wrong! hahahaaha...

Anyhow, hope this helps. Please keep me posted on how you are doing and hang in there...there is treatment.
  • Thank you so much for replying. I've been tested for the hormones and my testostrone and DHEA were really high. ARGH!, I go in for an ultrasound as soon as my next cycle starts. Luckily, I have a really good OB/GYN who actually listens to me.
  • Yer Quite Welcome!!! Keep us posted...
  • That's weird. I have heard of a loss of sex drive, but everyone that i have talked to that has PCOS has never had the loss of sex drive, instead they had an increased sex drive.
  • That's me. Poor hubby. We're opposites when it comes to that. *I* am always the one chasing him around the house... hahahaha!!!
  • Noodles: Maybe he likes playing hard to get, lol!

I think PCOS can go almost any which way. I know I have my hyper-randy moments, and other times in my cycle where IT doesn't even cross my mind all day. It's true high testosterone can make you *ahem* restless, but too much of any one hormone can also make you feel sort of ill and queasy, even numb or sore down there.

I've felt a lot better on my med, Spironolactone, which is a testosterone blocker (I take it mainly for hair loss). It's brought my hair back, and improved my skin and nails, so overall I look better and that makes me feel sexier.

What I'd really like to know is why I feel much more randy around the TOTM-- that just mystifies me.

Yea but after 12 years...it gets tiresome. . Our time is coming though!! This Thursday, Friday, Saturday, & Sunday is OURS!! We're going on a nice trip for his convention. (It just happens to coincide with our 1st anniversary we celebrate...the one when we 1st met in person. 12 Years ago this March 9th.)
He is the president so his company paid for it all and told him "get what you want". So...he got to "splurge" and we got the fancy river view rooms, the dinners, all of that stuff we don't normally get cause we are cheapskates!!

I use to get like that too around TOTM!!! I think it's all of the hormones that are stirring about..waiting to POUNCE!
  • It was the orgasm issue that sent me to the doc. in the first place. If PCOS is not the cause of my problems, that's depressing, cause I don't know what is.
Oh, they called and I do have PCOS btw... I'm taking Progesterone in between cycles, and I have to go back in for a check-up in a couple of months.
    BLAH!
  • Blackbird, I hope you get it worked out soon! I have had problems to both extremes as well. I was told by my doctor to exercise on a regular basis to increase sex drive.

Are you taking any other medications? Anti depressants can cause desensitization.
  • I Have PCOS that was misdiagnosed for 12 years. During this time I had little if no sex drive and a big loss in sensation that got worse as the years went on. I was only diagnosed within the past year (by a very good infertility staff at a military hospital). The doctor prescribed me progesterone and around the second month of taking it my sex drive was out the roof (my husband loved this) and I had a little increase in sensation. As I keep taking the progesterone the sensation problem keeps getting better as does my sexual drive
  • Thanks for sharing that! Maybe we should have a sex drive thread (well this is one, but you can't tell from the title of the thread) to help those that need it. I'm a firm believer in a strong sex drive! It cures what ailes ya, as we say in the south!
  • I'm on Abilify as well, though I'm not sure if that causes desensitization. I should check into that!
