your pouch and stress

  • Before surgery, I was the greatest of food stuffers while under stress!

One of the biggest changes for me since having WLS is that when I am stressed or uptight I can't eat. My pouch seems to seize up and I can't get anything down. Does this happen to anyone else? I really think of this as a blessing MOST of the times but there have been times when it is really irritating...both physically and mentally because sometimes I know I NEED to eat.

Are there anyways of relaxing your pouch?

(hey, can't hurt to ask, eh?)

    thanks,
    peach
  • YES IT HURTS!!! and you've seen me not eating under stress..

the only thing i've figured out is something liquid: protein shake, coffee with milk. some soft cheese if i feel brave. otherwise, it's really no go for awhile...
  • Peachie dear, as you know I have no words of advice to offer, since my pouch is on the outside of my body. I do, however, feel for you. The only time I ever experienced that kind of physical reaction to food and to fluids for that matter, was during an extremely stressful time, when my mom was in critical care, following an auto accident. Until that time I could not even imagine how it might feel to have your stomach and esophagus clench so tightly that you could not even fit a grape in there.

The only thing I can think of, but don't know if it applies to you, is to use some relaxation tapes? This maybe a totally silly suggestion but as you said (I hope) "it can't hurt to" suggest it...
