  • Good morning everyone

Still feeling good about my WI yesterday....that momentum will carry me into the weekend! Farmers market day today too!

So far not much planned for the weekend. DS needs to go to Macy's for some sweater vests so I may browse for a dress for the wedding I am going to in October.
  • Morning All

Fabulous NSV this week: For 25 years I've been plagued with candida and lived with endless bouts of thrush and a yellow/white coated tongue. Last night when I was brushing my teeth my tongue was a lovely, healthy red.

Just into week 4 and it's already made THIS much difference. I wonder what else will be fixed by the time I reach target weight?

Lisa Thanks for the tips about taking the enzymes. The indigestion and gas have all but gone, along with the constipation.

Thats so interesting to hear. I never felt better when I was on Phase 1&2, my skin was clear and my energy level much higher. Now that I'm in maintenance, I'm balancing everything but realize that sugar definately is not good for my system. I too have been told that I have yeast issues so what makes me feel best is eating the protein with vegies and some fruit. Its like my system was reset and I didn't realize how good I could feel with the weight off but also following a eating plan that eliminates so many things that I never thought about before, just ate them. Its been great to learn this!
  • OMG

Last night when I started to make another batch of pickles, I discovered the blog for my favorite home-fermented pickle recipe is down

I grabbed the ingredients off another blog & when I get a chance, I'll re-create the directions & post in the recipe thread. Big Bummer. It was so easy to send people to the blog

My apologies to anyone who Googled it and didn't find it!
I'm getting closer and closer to starting my own blog just due to issues such as this.
  • Hi all,

TGIF, right?! It's been a long and hectic week on my end.

I have a question about how late people tend to get their last packet in. My friend who is "coaching" me with IP (I'm doing alternatives on my own - no clinic or anything) said her coach told her nothing after 8pm. I'm finding that a bit hard as I often get home late from work and can't get that last packet in until 9 or 9:30. I like to leave my snack for after dinner because I usually eat on the early side and haven't felt hungry in between lunch and dinner.

What are the recommendations about eating later at night? Has anyone noticed a benefit to getting all your food in before 8 or does it not make a difference either way? My night snack is usually a shake, so nothing that would be hard to digest or anything. I'd appreciate your thoughts! I've always wondered if there's anything to that "not eating late at night" recommendation of many diets.

    Thanks

    Lucy

We need to fit this into our lifestyles. Not everyone works 8-5 and goes to bed before 10 (nothing after 8 works very well with that schedule).
Personally, I do best with my snack in the late afternoon (after school snack) most days. But I plan my day to determine when it works best.
If you're up later than me, 9-9:30 is probably fine.
I'm winding down by then b/c I'm usually up by 4:30-5 am
  • Happy Friday!! I am having a NSV day today...wearing a pair of new pants that I bought yesterday in size 8. It has been sooo long since I have been this size...makes me happy Have a great day everyone!!!!

A few months ago, one of the IP coaching videos contained a discussion of the importance of avoiding hypoglycemia at night and recommended an evening snack. I don't recall the timing, just that they seemed to feel more strongly than before about avoiding really long periods of fasting on P1. Unfortunately I can't access P1 videos anymore.

My take about their recommendation to avoid late night snacks was to address the habit that many of us had in becoming overweight

  • cough medicine?
I've been sick with a cold thing all week. I went to the doctor on Wednesday but he said it was just a virus and didn't need antibiotics. He offered me cough syrup but I told him I was on a ketogenic diet and didn't want to take any sugary stuff. Since then I've tried all the usual routes - oil of oregano, hot lemon drinks (no scotch in it though unfortunately) and I've even had a couple of zinc lozenges although I think they are sugar based.

But last night I had to finally take a medicine to stop the coughing - one with codeine which always works. And then again this morning so people wouldn't get mad at me for coughing on the bus. But I'm afraid that all this sugar is going to rise up the demons of cravings.

Anyone know of a good sugar free cough medicine? I have high blood pressure so I can't take a lot of the pills for flu etc. I usually just go to the pharmacy and ask for a cough medicine with codeine.
