Hi all,
Today I'm starting my "me" journey. For my New Years resolution, I'm all about doing something for me this year. I am a stay at home momma for 2 boys. They keep me on my toes but it doesn't leave much time for me to focus on me.
I started about 3 years ago after my doc told me that I needed to lose weight. I have PCOS, so since high school, my weight keeps going up each year. I am now at 255lbs. My doc recommended that I have surgery, but I didn't want to go that route. I wanted to prove to him that I could do it on my own. Easier said than done. So I went to my local hospital and enrolled in one of their aggressive programs. I lost 40lbs in about 5 months. It worked great but it is very time consuming and expensive to keep up. After losing all that weight, I became pregnant again and due to health concerns for the baby I had to stop exercising. At the beginning of last year I decided it was time to do something about my weight and again went aggressive and ordered the Insanity program. For a heavy girl, I think I did pretty good for the first month but didn't see any results. (disappointing) I ended up getting a herniated disc in my lower back that took me out of commission for a month to heal. After that I'm scared to try anything else or to get back into the Insanity. I have lowered my calories and still gain weight. I'm scared to start something and not finish it, but I'm so tired of making excuses. Any advice?
I have been looking for a site like this for a while now. I'm so glad to see there are other people, especially women, out there that are just like me. Here's to a new year! I'm praying that 2014 is my year to finally pull my head out of my butt and do something for myself.

With your PCOS diagnosis, did you also happen to get an insulin resistance diagnosis? They often go hand-in-hand. If you are insulin resistant, besides just cutting back on calories, you really need to cut back on carbs. Perhaps you already do, but I wanted to mention it, just in case. As for exercise, it will help you to become fit, but diet is what is most important when it comes to weight loss, so you don't have to do any strenuous exercise. I simply walk. You will find lots of support here! We even have a PCOS sub-forum under "Dieting with Obstacles" in the Support Forum:
Thank you for your advice. I will start walking tonight and just work up from there. Every little thing is better than what I have been doing.
