I'm going in for a consultation with a doctor next week about a procedure called micro needling. I think it's also called by a few other names like dermarolling and skin needling but instead of doing it myself at home, I thought I should see a professional. I know that stretch marks don't disappear 100% but at this point I'm looking to improve them because they are such a buzz kill. I have them on my upper arms and shoulders which is why I never, ever wear tank tops. I hope I get some good news. Have any of you been able to rid yourselves of stretch marks or reduced them drastically?

I have them but haven't really done anything to try and get rid of them. I've had them for years and pretty sure I'll be dealing with them forever. I'm interested to see what others have to say and how your experience is. Good luck!

And they said it worked p well. It doesn't get rid of them completely. But it fades them and blends it in with your skin tone more so they aren't as obvious. I mean people would have to be really close up to you to even see them.

I've used cocoa butter and that's really helped mine be less noticeable. They're still there of course, but now they're white instead of red/purple.

The majority of mine have faded to white, but I can't imagine them ever fading completely. I haven't done anything with them aside from the occasional use of cocoa butter. I guess it's just natural fading over time.

Something we all have to live with I guess!

Thanks for the responses! I'll look into that treatment, Torii. I've never heard of anyone eliminating them completely and I have accepted the likelihood of living with them forever. I'll let you all know how the procedure goes.

I've had stretchmarks on my back, shoulders and arms since I was 13 due to growing taller quickly. Puberty made me get them on my hips, breasts and thighs too. It seems that weight gain is the only size change that hasn't given me stretch marks! They fade to be white after a couple of years and sunlight seems to have reduced them further. Good luck with the treatment but most people have stretch marks if only from puberty/growth spurts.

I have a lot of them on my tummy. They used to be a dark red but with time they've faded to white. which are still very noticeable on my medium-dark skin. Please let us know how the consultation goes!

I've found that vitamin E oil (like $4 a bottle at Walmart near supplements) helps to fade them over time. I have them from puberty as well as from weight gain.

When there are new procedures it is a bit scary as far as you don't know what the long term effects could be like discoloration. I have to wear these stretch marks like a badge of honor and you know a good tan always seems to make them less noticeable

A few years back I did a crazy amount of research on getting rid of them. I was part of a forum that tried all kinds of things (but for the life of me cannot remember the forum, it had something to do with skin and the UK).

The best results came from skin needling and acid peels.

I read somewhere that making a paste out of baking soda and olive oil and rubbing it on stretch marks a few times a week will help. I haven't tried it yet, but the concept makes sense. The grittyness would remove skin cells and eventually it might remove the scar tissue. I'll try it soon and let you all know if it helps.

It kind of drives me nuts when people say that lotions and topical treatments get rid of or reduce stretch marks. They don't. Stretch marks are not the result of the surface of your skin tearing, but rather the layers underneath. Think about it, have your stretch marks ever bled? No. The reason they fade is because of time. Not lotions.

Surgical procedures? I'll admit I don't know much about them, but I'd bet they work a lot better than coffee grounds and cocoa butter.

I don't know how to get rid of them. I just accept it's part of my body now. I hope you do find a way to lessen the appearance of them though. ^_^
