Just starting the Atkins Plan have question

  • Hi, I just got a copy of the Atkins book from my local library and plan on starting tomorrow. I have a question though. The book says to eat as much protein as you want. Is this right? Can I really eat all the meat I want at each serving? Or should I limit myself? Any suggestions for meal plans from those who have done the induction and survived?
  • Eat as much meat as you want, that's right. Remember, protein is so filling, you really can't eat a 100 ounce steak, but I sure can polish off an entire bag of popcorn by myself It's best to load up on protein to keep you from feeling hungry and deprived, and keeps those cravings at bay. Drink lots and LOTS of water, okay? There are menu threads where some people post what they eat each day, that might give you some idea. Also, check out the low-carb recipes below this forum. Good luck!
  • Yes, you can basically eat all the protein you want. Like Sherrie said, you won't be aching for more chicken breasts if you've already had enough! Protein keeps you full longer, and there are only so many acceptable choices of protein without added carbs. After a few days of induction, your natural appetite suppresant will kick in and you won't eat too much.

As far as induction ideas go, eggs and chicken were my top choices. Chicken salad with mayo and celery, roasted chicken, cheese, egg salad, scrambled eggs and bacon, fried cabbage, deviled eggs, fried eggs, egg quiches.
  • Yup, what Sherrie, and Jennifer said

Make sure you drink your water, its very very important!! On induction I ate alot of eggs, cheese, chicken and beef. I ate my veggies, but I also used them to fill me up if I was hungry late at night. Big bowl of brussel sprouts with butter and parm cheese are very tastey you know.

and yes you will get tired of eggs, but its only 2 weeks. I dont eat 1/2 the amount of eggs I used to. 1doz every 2 weeks instead of 2doz every week.

Good Luck to you, ......you have found a great place for support and help!

  • Thanks for all your input. I have been eating more protien the last few days as a test before starting officially today. I have found I already feel better with the increase of protein. I am drinking my water and it feels good to eat all I want instead of going away from the table hungry. I do miss pasta though.

I am looking forward to eating all the meat I gave up or cut way down on again.
  • I have one more thing to add--take a magnesium/potassium supplement since the intake of protein and increased amounts of water my make your joints feel a bit achy for a few days. This alleviates that problem--now enjoy your new plan!
