Empowering My Life

  • Hi Everyone,

I was never fit but I was healthy growing up- I didn't eat much in the way of fast food, I participated in activities in high school, I even lost weight my first year of college.

But then I had a bad break up. The typical depressed eat-your-feelings breakup in which I gained 20 pounds over the course of a summer. From there it gradually went downhill- Gained another 30 pounds over the years thanks to my now ruined outlook on portion sizes and indifference towards activity.

Two months ago I went through another bad break up, and I've been hurting a lot. But I found that I hurt less when I exercised. Being physically exhausted and sore took my mind off being sad, and I've started working out consistently. I'm trying to use this new motivation as a jumping off point for a lifestyle change- now that I'm getting in the habit of going to the gym and taking fitness classes, I'm adjusting how I eat so I can get in the habit of eating right. Rather than staying in bed and feeling sorry for myself, I'm trying to use this as an opportunity to empower myself and become more mentally and physically healthy.

I'm taking fitness classes 5 times a week and I've started Weight Watchers to watch my diet. I know many people don't like the 'diet' word, but I consider this a diet, as I don't intend to be on WW counting my fiber and carbs forever. Once I reach my goal weight, I will hopefully be able to make the right decisions for my body without the structure.

    Nice to meet you all!
