balancing a job with the rest of my life?

  • hi everyone, I'm thinking about getting a job soon (in a year or so) but I'm not sure if it will get in the way of my weight loss.... my biggest fear right now is that I won't get hired for being larger, or too young....

hmm any thoughts? Do you think a job would make things more diffcult?
Should I wait till I lose a lot of weight or make it to my goal? Or go for it now?

I'm just thinking out loud here XD
  • You won't kow unless you try. I weighed about your weight when I got my first job at 16.
  • Hey! I know what you mean. I joined 3FC because I gained 60 lbs in my first year of teaching. The reason that happened, though, is due to the fact that I ignored my body. I was purely mental and emotional, and had nothing left. I thought I needed more sleep but turns out, I needed more activity! Waking up early has worked for me and TRUST ME- I am no early worm! If you get employed (which you will, because you are fabulous), just tell yourself you need to be active daily, just as you need to brush your teeth, do your hair, make up, etc. It's daily maintenance, as I saw a mod on here post once. Your you-time should NEVER be negotiable! Good luck with the job hunt
  • Yes a job can make things more difficult. Not only because you have less free time (and probably more stress) but because of the transition period. At least for me, it has always been my experience that I gain weight during transitions, be it a move or a new job. It takes some getting used to the new environment, new people. So I would use the time that you have now to learn as much as possible about weight loss and to achieve as much weight loss as you can, and to get in the mindset of planning ahead. Bringing your own lunch/snacks is a way to curb 'new job weight gain'. So learning how to cook some healthy dishes is a good step to take now.
  • re:
If you need/want a job now, go get it. Never hold back on anything in life because of your weight.

For me, working keeps my mind off other things, mainly obsessing about my weight.
  • I find that having a job/routine makes things easier. Whenever I was out of work or off was when it was difficult. Boredom eating urges woud set in.

Literally being stuck home during Sandy was the biggest challenge..

Anyway right now I have four jobs. I find it SO much easier to stay on track because I can't sit around and think about eating!
