Staying on track while on Vacation

  • Any one have some tips for how to stay on track will I am at home on vacation? I am supposed to enjoy my time off from the 9-5, not be terrified I am going to eat the whole house!! lol.

    What works for you?
  • I, too, am kinda terrified. I'm going up to my parent's place and they're pretty anal about their kitchen so I don't like to cook in it. Plus they eat a lot of old school carbs like white potatoes, etc.

I just try to stick to as much of my routine as possible, but it's tough as I'm pretty specific with what I eat and when. I would be interested to hear any tips....
  • Perhaps you can try planning meals that you look forward to. I know that helps me, vacation or not. Also, plan for fun activities that keep you busy and away from the kitchen.
  • I agree with Lauren - try and pre-track your week, so you can prepare and plan ahead for your meals.

If you are going out shopping a lot, bring some fruit/cheesesticks/other light snacks along so you aren't tempted to pull in somewhere and eat off plan.

If you like to cook, get your WW cookbooks out or search online for good recipes that you'd like to try, and cook some new things for dinner.

Start every day with exercise. You'll be less likely to go off plan later in the day.

    Hope these help!
  • Planning is key: I'm off for 10 days starting Friday and have already sat down and figured out how many meals I'm going to have to "worry" about (breakfast is easy for me, it's lunch and dinner I have to focus on). I know what's in my fridge I can eat as leftovers, plus what I can build meals around, and then I'll go through my cookbooks or find recipes online and build a shopping list around that to fill in the rest of the days.

I'm more likely to snack during vacations like this, so I make sure to stock up on healthy snacks that I can grab guilt free (my new favorite is Fage 0% Total Plain greek yogurt mixed with taco seasoning and use it as a dip for veggies).

Jennifer's suggestion of starting each morning with exercise is also a great idea. It will get you AP points, plus will keep you on track as you won't want to undo the hard work you did.
  • I have never had much luck with pre-planning menus, but leftovers. I love those. Thanks for the suggestions, ladies.
