I weighed myself for the first time and bad news

  • I bought a scale and I'm not sure if I set it right?
But it said I was 297lbs///But I'm still shocked... I honestly thought I would be around 200lbs.
This is such a wake up call... and it hurts...

I'm a little upset but even more determined to lose weight.
My ultimate goal is to be 130lbs by 2014...Or at least 150lbs...

wow :I could use back up

    EDIT -
-- Thanks everyone, I'm going to weigh myself again

Either way I will not let it stop me... have a nice night I'm off to bed.
  • A number is just a number and don't let it get in the way of your goal. Put the scale in the closet and I triple dog dare you not to look at it until the new year.

Do what you do, feel better about you. It's what matters. And as long as you're even more determined, well awesome! Go get some! But do not let that -number- shake you.
  • *many hugs* I understand your shock and even if your scale isn't malfunctioning, you can do this. *more hugs*
  • That first weighin was always hard. But your going to be so proud of yourself when you hit your goal, and your going to look back at that number and think about how far you came...

You can do this. Don't let how much you want to lose overwealm you. Take it a few pounds at a time, set mini goals and be proud when you reach them.

    Best of luck
  • Oh I've been there, my mental perception of my size and what the scale and clothes indicated were NOT in alignment. But this is just the first, necessary step of your journey downward.

That scale is a tool, and it will continue to just be a tool, don't let it dictate your mood or self worth. Grab a tape measure and add starting measurements to your starting weight stats. Then find a plan you can live with and enjoy and be on your way. It's simple, though not easy, but myself and many, many others on this site are living proof it can be done!

Never quit, and you can't fail. It is only by giving up that your weight can defeat you. Otherwise there is always hope and a path forward.
  • Just to reiterate what everyone else said, don't get caught up in the numbers. Maybe you thought you were only 200 b/c you in fact look like you only weigh 200! Especially if youre tall, tall women carry their weight well (at least I think I carry mine well)

The number doesn't matter. Think about it, the number doesn't make you look different. You wanted to lose weight BEFORE you stepped on the scale right? Maybe you wanted to work on a flat stomach or more defined arms, whatever the case. If you had stepped on the scale and it said 130lbs would you have said, "cool! No need to lose weight!! Nevermind!" ??

Nope. You would have set a lower number. So it doesn't really matter WHAT the number is, it's just a way to measure your progress!

    Good luck!
  • I can relate too. A few years ago I bought a scale thinking I can't be more than 250lbs. Boy was I wrong! I was more like 298. I couldn't believe I was pretty well 300lbs.
  • On the upside, commit to changing your diet now and this will be the highest number you ever see.
  • This is true no matter what your weight:

The number on the scale is an indication of what your body weighs, not an indication of your self worth.

    Don't let it shake you!
  • Hugs!
Now you have a starting point, lets rock 2013!!!
  • hugs to everyone, thank you a bunch
